I'm betting that your settings are the problem, have a search around for new account settings. Also let the accounts rest for a few days, its pretty obvious your botting if you make and account and start spamming 20 mins later

maybe when you following at certain number, IG have challenge you with captcha but instead of answering the captcha you still sending request to follow another user.
i also afraid to scrape photo in big amount in one time request.

For the average noob who doesn't have money or large accounts it will be very difficult for them to gain followers.

In the IM game, time = money. So if you're going to wait to get followers then you're putting off a lot of money on the table.

Just because you don't use a bot doesn't make your way the "right way". Using a bot is just a different method. I do agree with you though, if you have the time then manual is the way to go.

OP it is most likely that your delays are too quick. What are they set at?

OP I can't give you advice from experience, coz I am new to Insta, but if I were you, I would gather more knowledge about other ppl bot settings, adjust mine according to what I consider is right. On the new acc I would play the 1-st week manually then run the bot. GL
