Is SEO worth the trouble?

I don't want to discourage anyone who is involved with SEO as I know little about it, but I've been able to generate 3x the traffic you'd get from most keywords you can rank for in a single day from social media etc.. So why do people bother with it? It's also risky, because you never know what will happen to your position in the search engines, atleast with social media traffic you don't have to rely on anyone else. Am I right about this?

Because when they find you on google it means they're looking for you (or your niche). When they find you on social media it's usually because you're shoving it in their face.

Search engine traffic usually converts better than social media.

It also depends on the niche, search volume and a lot of other factors.

Believe me, you're not discouraging anyone

As the above said search engine traffic converts pretty well.

Plus after you find a working SEO method its just a matter of putting up a new site and waiting 1-2 months to rank and then its money on autopilot.

I said usually. You can believe what you want. Do what you're comfortable with. The only thing I know for sure is that SEO works and you're not going to change anyone's mind

Social media is not a bad way to go by any means, but neither is SEO

Keyword has a lot to do with it too.

Social media would be great for monetizing "cute dresses" or "healthy dessert ideas"
SEO would be better for things like "best lawyer in Boston"

It really does depend on the niche but I think it's best to do both on most niches. Also, they both rely on someone else. SEO relies on google, yahoo and bing. Social media relies on facebook, twitter and instagram. Your income relies on adsense, clickbank or amazon

well if social media works for you then keep doing it. either outsource the SEO or make some time to create and optimize content. you just gotta go for it.

for myself seo is 100 x better seo traffic converts at 30% when ranked first page where as social for me is a low 7% and way less traffic

depends on niche

seo should a part of your online business strategy
but you get more traffic via direct marketing
with seo, you wait for people to come to you
seo's good and difficult, but shouldn't be the only resource of traffic

Either Have a TIME OR Have MONEY.... It's all on you... Both SEO and Paid traffic is great... I go for paid traffic first and make it work and once it's profitable then I'd throw money madly... Once the system is quite working I'd go for SEO as well... But SEO would be the last option... It's a personal preference... either you wait for the money to roll in or get the money rollin first and later focus on time taking tasks like SEO, which is under someone's control... I personally do both...

Sometimes you have to wait only for a short period while other times it feels like ages... who can predict Google!
