I've been away for awhile and haven't kept up with google the past year or so. I'm finally get back into things and have been wondering what's going on at google. Searched around and couldn't really find answers to this so don't mind me acting like a "newbie". I seen the google piracy update and all that but it doesn't explain what's going on below:
So what's going on with pirated and copyright content and google now? Talking about things like TV shows and ppv streams. Was searching for the leaked episodes of game of thrones last Sunday and noticed spam was no where near as bad for these keywords as they were last year. First I thought, oh google finally started getting rid of spam. Nope. Some parasites still rank well even with no unique content and keyword stuffing / spamming while others do not at all. Also noticed several of the bigger and legit websites using keywords that are VERY misleading for the content they have, ranked in top spots. Dug a little deeper and searched on bing and etc and found plenty of sites but none of them ranked on google for some reason. All had unique content but were new and registered within the past month for the new season of game of thrones.
Found the above a little weird so I created a few websites on 1 year old domains all with unique handwritten content to test out. I noticed when I included "Watch Episode Online" type of keywords the page would NOT rank at all. Not even for the site name. Removed certain keywords and site would rank again. Same with another site, this one targeting stream keywords for the recent USA vs Mexico match. Wouldn't rank at ALL even though competition for the keywords targeted were very low, i'm talking long tail keywords here. Again, all unique content based on the match and decent quality links. Third and fourth website I created (same server, ip, etc) was for another niche not related to the niches above and it ranked fine. So it has to be the niche, right?
So I'm guessing google does not rank new sites (even on old domains) that are based around copyrighted content like TV shows and sports streams?
