Google is being forced to do the impossible??

Yeah I thought the same, just as they shutted down Google News in Spain regarding to a new law that requires every Spanish publication to charge services like Google News for showing even the smallest snippet from their publications

Best part is the Spanish organization that lobbied for it in the first place then pleaded with Google to come back :10:

At least someone is stepping up!
Just today the European Commission has filed formal antitrust charges:

After walking away without so much as a slap on the wrist from a U.S. antitrust investigation, Google is about to get into a major fist fight with the European Union!
The commission has also launched a full probe into Google's Android mobile operating system after a group of competitors accused the company of using it to "monopolize the mobile marketplace and control consumer data." Vestager said the European Union is also looking into other Google services, such as airline flights and hotel booking sites.

Google would prefer to simply block the entire country of France - it would be much easier and affect the French government much more than it does Google ;)

Even if google revealed there 'search ranking code' it won't be revealed to the public and the governement must hold secrecy on it. Only few highly qualified engineers would have access to it for a short matter of time, plus Google make changes to their algorithm very often

It seems like the EU is trying to extort google, its almost as bad as fining MS for not including another browser and calling that a monopoly. Yet MS never blocked people from installing another browser on their computer. Same with phones there is nothing by google that is preventing me from installing linux on my Note 3.

Google would never remove France. Doing so would only create a perfect launch pad for future competitor. This has to be a hoax, it's to stupid and un-savvy not to be.

I think it has never been about france but more europe.

And the specific topic is : Google put up its own results (ads and services) before any natural results. It's about the same type of case as microsoft when they opened their code.

This world is just stupid....

They might as well force KFC and Pepsi to give up their secret recipes for their product also

But what would you rather have as a company, block the country or have somebody like bing use your code and make it better.

Google is a private company and what they do on their search engine is their choice.
It's like asking walmart to stop advertising their credit cards in their shop and rather showing their concurent one.
