DSL reboot to change IP

Hi I am n00b to the whole proxy thing so go easy...

I read here that you can reboot DSL and get a new IP. But then someone said that you can ony change the last part of the IP number i.e. the xxx in aaa.bbb.ccc.xxx is that true? So this means you are limited to 1000 variations in IP all within the same class C ?

Rebooting your dsl modem does not change your IP. Trust me I thought the same thing and it doesnt work.

It depends on if you have a dynamic IP or not regarding if it will work. Ignore the above post - it might not work for him but it does for others (like myself). All I do is unplug my modem for a minute or 2 and plug it in again and I get a new ip.

If it doesn't work for you, try typing ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew after you reset your modem. Check whatismyip.com before and after to see if it changed.

To answer your question, each octet only goes up to 255, so if what you were saying is true you could only have 255 possibilities. In practice though it's not always true. Mine for example has the possibility of the last 2 octets changing, giving me 255x255 possible IP addresses.

Rebooting your DSL modem can change your IP only if your ISP services is still dynamic, but if your ISP subscription is already static, then any rebooting wont change your IP at all as it is semi permanent with Static IP services.
