Is content king? can he be dethroned?

Hi,

I was thinking of creating a good appealing site that sydicates/aggregates(steals) content from other similar sites in the niche via rss.
If i dont pay attention to the content but spend a decent amount of effort on promoting the site via social media etc. would i eventually rank on search engines(probably not)?
Also could such a setup be profitable? or would it be a waste of time? if so why ? :\

Unique value is what you should be aiming for instead of just loads of content. Even if an article is 100% copyscape passed
does it bring unique value? Personally, I see your site not having an easy road basically aggregating content from other
websites and siting sources.

If those visitors on the social media pages provide backlinks to your website, then I can see how you could rank, although I doubt you would rank highly in the SERPs.

Perhaps you could try it out and post the results here on Black Hat World?

Not saying you won't be able to do it, but in my experience, it does not work. I have tried doing the same (news syndicator) but was not able to rank it anywhere. One thing you could try is to rewrite the content which I did not try.

Well nothing is "King" in SEO since all of the pieces work together to rank you properly. Since you are new to the mix
then how about learning how to do keyword research, write some content, and start a nice MNS site?

It doesn't take to much investment and you can monetize it several different ways including, but not limited to Amazon, AdSense, and a variety of publisher friendly platforms that have niche relevant affiliate products.

You can earn a lot thru various means if you get fb and other social networking traffic, targeted would be more profitable. FCK the DUP content worries and bank till you can. Depends on what content you get. And fck Google organic results. Fb traffic is good as well. Just don't use AdSense.

then how about learning how to do keyword research, write some content, and start a nice MNS site?

I would suggest you try rewriting content, and advertising with keywords.

I think video promotion will get the best results in this arena. Content is great but in this day and age, it seems people are looking for more interaction. Visuals. I have a site that only has videos. It's heavily promoted and it's pretty decent in ranking. Gets positive traffic.

You may have to do some more efforts than just grabbing the RSS. Like aggregate and extract articles from articles linked in RSS feeds, do some light rewrite with WordAI and/or TheBestSpinner, add images / videos scraped on topic, relink/tag/categorize. Share / spread on social sites. This all can be automated, using your skills or using some freelancer.

That will give you traffic for sure.

And try lots of niches and choose winners.

Lots of good advices here, don't think regualr SEO here, traffic is what you need for such auto-generated websites.

This can work but don't expect Google's love. I have one such site (auto Rss, pulls feeds) , but the traffic is entirely social media based. Besides it's a news based site. Over time I have built regular followers who visit daily, mostly coz they got all the new aggregated in one place. So i'd say, it depends entirely on your niche and the kind of social media clicks you can pull.

I know of a little blog buying all insentivised traffic and making a killing on add space. Good content and real traffic (obviously) has more staying power.
