High Quality Backlinks sending people away?

In terms of putting HIGH quality back links on your website, does that ever impact your site negatively? In terms of the traffic click on that link and being like "OH HEY THIS SITE IS BETTER"

Especially if your website is new and still being developed?

Here is how to fix it - occasionally link to university studies and government reports that are boring as fuck to read (I don't do this very often - just when I want a legit citation). Viewers willl hit the back button (or close the new tab) quickly. Don't link to Wikipedia (they don't need the juice away). Personally, I can get stuck on Wikipedia for a long time clicking on random shit.

As long as you don't link to a site that is basically just like yours (same niche) then i see no problem. Last thing you want to do is link to a site that your user may find more useful than yours

To add to the reasonable suggestions others have made above, I'd advise you to use anchor text that your visitors won't be tempted to click on.

Citations are useful for building credibility. While there are still people that believe anything they see users are usually more IM savvy these days and it will get worse (or better depending on how you look at it) the more time goes by.

Someone suggested studies and I concur, while I think its good to link to the source another good way to approach it is to summarize the study as you link to it.

For example "A recent study published by the University of Blackhatworld said that it is ok to use outbound links as long as they are to reputable sources." most times they dont even click the link but the times they do it simply reinforces your opinion which adds credibility to your site.
