How many Twitter replies a day?

Just curious... I never quite know what people mean when they say they're doing x number of replies a day.
Do you men you're manually replying to x number of @ tweets directed at you, that you're manually butting into @ tweets directed at others, or that you are sending automated replies to @ tweets directed at others?
... or DM's to those who message you directly, or @replies to those who's attention you want to grab?

Don't do it mate, I lost a huge pile of accounts doing this. Really good accounts too. To be honest I am not even doing it anymore because its too dangerous.
