Local SEO course for IMers

Hey all! I created a local seo course around 2 years ago and even though most of it is still relevant, I created it for the wrong audience...small business owners. (they don't have time to deal with it).

So now I will be updating it geared specifically to IMers.

The question I have for you is....What do you want to see in this course? What causes you the most time and pain when dealing with Local SEO?

Those who offer their input will be given a promo code to access the course for free once it is live. I plan to have it up within the next month, just depends on how much feedback I get.

Hey xstumpedx,

A point of confusion that I often hit is my on-page keyword targeting strategy. For some local sites, it's easy to know where to target certain keywords. For others, it's not as clear. Sometimes I feel like I should be building separate keyword-focused pages on a site for certain terms. Sometimes I feel like I should be building separate "sniper" micro sites. Multiple methods seem to work, but I'm never sure exactly what the best approach is. Some training on targeting local keywords on-page in a natural way would be interesting!

I think the big thing people miss in courses is talking about thing like:
-creating good content
-having good website layout/structure
-keyword research
-social media

everything these days is NAP NAP NAP...we know! citations are important! But so is creating a good site, doing good keyword research, creating good social media profiles, creating a list, etc.

mainly concerned with organic ranking and also local maps rankings. for instance, how some companies can come up for multiple cities in maps and others only come up in their town

mainly though im concerned with the best method of ranking local sites organically. what the most efficient, cost effective way is to rank local sites. citations definitely help, and im thinking of doing press releases but im not 100% sure how much it will help me rank. basically finding SAFE, effective local ranking strategies for organic is most troublesome for me, since it's so important to avoid penalties at all costs.

Some tough things for me are how to do all the back end stuff like Geo Targetting.

Also maybe some good info on how to rank for each individual city you service so your Maps will show up for more City/Kw,s

As above, and what NOT to do for local that you would typically do for 'normal' SEO.

Why sometimes there is a 6 pack/ 8 pack and sometimes not even though the search word is very similar.

Or pack break down. What's blended, pure local or other. How to figure that out by modifying your URL string, or searching in maps.google.com.

I'd like to see someone write some high level stuff. Until then, why would go somewhere other than the likes of blumenthal, localsearchforum, localvisibilitysystem, localu, whitespark, moz and the like...

Who is your audience? noobs or advanced?

The last thing we need is another "The Ultimate Guide..." that is full of fluff.

I would recommend doing a how to section on certain tasks with resources.

1.) Link building
2.) Creating quality content
3.) Keyword research
4.) Internal link building
5.) Setting up Google+ page
6.) Submit business to Google Places and local directories (give a few general directory links etc and niche specific)

Probably the most important keys to local seo
