Derank: Pushing down a review

Dear all,

A falsified poor review posted on a popular bulletin board, dating back to 2013, is topping results when searching for our company name?even when several true and positive reviews are posted to the same bulletin board.

What is recommended to push the review down in search results, or to outrank the review?

You might want to thoroughly check that page's backlink profile.If the natural incoming links are way to low,then you are some what good to go.Now,search for "Google Bowling" and how to use it. Infact,You would practically have to build Hundreds , Thousands of the same type of links within a day to get a link penalized by Google.Blasting with spam links might work.

Okay first thing never blast spam links to an authority site's page if you want to push it down in google as it is not gonna penalize the page rather it will make it stronger in SERP .what you can do is start building links to the good review page of the that site or any other site which has a good review of yours.

You may blast some of these good review pages and they will replace the bad review page in SERP,But thats your choice.

To outrank the negative review you should build links, to ALL the positive reviews, with keywords such as "good review, best review, superb review, genuine review" etc.

Eventually the positive reviews will outrank the negative review and push it down the serps.

Do you know SEO? Sending just some spam backlinks to random site's likely won't be the answer. The reason I say that is because it really boils down to good ol' SEO.

What can you build that can be ranked above the negative report? Spending some good money on links can go a long ways here. However keep in mind that you'll want to optimize those pages so that they can rank easier and have a higher CTR over the potential negative result.

the good reviews were posted before or after the bad one?

anyway, try to get a good review (keyword stuffed) on there and then build some links to it. that's something orm guys do because google would most likely rank the newest/freshest result from the same domain.

you just got to make sure the bad one doesn't have lots of backlinks and build enough backlinks to the new-good one as well.

Parasite Web 2.0's vs reputation review/scam sites/news outlets are an entirely different game. This guy is pretty spot on, you won't neg SEO the review away by spamming the crap out of it. You'll more often shoot yourself in the foot and make it HARDER to over come the negative review.

In my opinion for those people that don't know how to do SEO to hire a professional to do it, otherwise you could open up a can of worms and end up paying more than you would by doing it the right way the first time.

As superlinks said web2.0 are totally different ballgame.Now if you want proof for it then go ahead try it out and find the proof for yourself.

Op if you're serious about tackling this issue ASAP i stongly suggest you contact someone specialised in ORM (online reputation management). Like many have pointed out spamming that review will often have the opposite effect and actually fortifies it's position on the first page (presuming it has been posted on an aged, authorithive domain).

What all this helps if the user types in "company name SCAM" or "company name bad reviews" Google will pull up the negative faster than you can say BUHH!

What I have seen to work best is to switch your domain to something new if there are too many negative reviews.

If the bad review is in the results with just your company name, maybe try to create some good profiles for your company on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, G+ so that you can rank them on your name and push this review out of the first page of results.

Key point there. Google is only showing the one result from that forum, right?

If that's the case, then all you really have to do is SEO for some of the positive reviews.
1. Look at comments -- is the negative review getting more comments than the positive ones? And are they more recent? If so, get comments going on the positive ones.
2. Are there links to the negative review (check with Ahrefs, Majestic, etc.)? If so, then generate just a few more links to a couple of the positive reviews.

This is actually one of the easiest reputation issues to fix.

That can work too, depending on the site. Very effective on Topix, useless on Pissed Consumer.

Having negative reviews on popular websites can be harmful for business and cost business owner lot of bucks. As these websites proven that they will not work with business owners to remove false and misleading reviews unless they violate their policies.
The easiest way by far is to talk to the person who wrote the review and convince him/her to change or remove the review. Take steps to clear up the issue and make an honest effort to do so. You can offer them something in return as gesture of good faith such as free meal etc.

Second step to fix such reviews is to understand where customers find these reviews. As we know customers are using Google, Yahoo & Bing to find online reviews. You can make plan of action to push down yelp business listing from google search with positive content.

So if you push down the negative review.. what does it change if a customer / lead type in "company name" Scam or "company name" bad review - the first thing that will pull up there is the negative / scam review.. I don't know why people ignore that fact and I would love to know what a so called ORM can do about that..????

I have no idea why, but not a single person has mentioned interlinking - when that one technique alone will solve 90% of your problem.

You need to interlink the positive posts in the site. On-page of an authority is more important for association. Once the positive press has been interlinked (possibly comment within the best post linking to additional great posts), then send backlinks to the pages interlinking pages - low level first, and then tada, all positive move up, negative move down (I'm skipping some simple steps cause I assume you know how to properly link and anchor text).
