How Important is Age of Domain?

I have several wedding related websites. Some I recently registered and one that is about 5 years old and has been down for about 3 of those years. I got all of them up and running and have been gathering links back to them.
My question is the one that is old is a general wedding website and I have been linking to it for general wedding terms like wedding planning and wedding tips,etc. but I bought one domain for wedding chair covers and have it optimized for wedding chair covers in the domain name,the pages on the site, and the links to it.
I checked my keyword ranking and discovered that the old domain that is general wedding info has the 14th listing for the keyword I was targeting on the wedding chair cover site. All that domain has is one page optimized for that keyword and an ad that steers buyers to my ecommerce site.
My question is does the age of a domain matter so much that it overrides a domain that has the keyword in the domain,has pages optimized for that keyword, and has links with anchor text that are for the keyword I am targeting.
I realize it could be the sandbox effect or is it that google really places that much importance on the age of the domain?

I built a site and forgot about it and 1 year later it was getting 20uv/day, with no promotion at all. Its not very much but wants I start promoting it well double in a matter of days. Then again, and again..ect

My experience says age is important. Client hired me for some SEO so I bought a new name with his keywords in it did on-page opt then waited.

Client then decided he wanted me to help his original (aged) site. Did on-page opt on his 5 year old site with only 1 of his terms in his url and the old site jumped to #4 or so while the other "new" site languishes around #13 and neither site has any backlinks.

Age do matters if we go for a sale of our domain!!!Its not that we get from one hand and sell to another!!!The age is directly proportional to the bid!!!

Domain's age is really important for SEO. With a new domain you just can't go deep into the seo business because there's a high probability that you will end up into the sandbox. However, an older domain has a bit of reputation in the eyes of Google.

Well I guess the next question is where do you gte aged domains. Buying a new domain and optimizing only to languish back in the serps sucks. I think it might be cheaper in the long run to go ahead and buy an aged domain.

Yes matters alot, it is a major factor I think. I have a PR4/5 which came with age, we havent optimised it. but in time we are seen as not a "new viagra" selling site so the oldest urls need the most focus for speed.

Yes. After the 1 year mark it boosts.

Also when you buy domains with 2-10 year renewals.

Domain age is important.

Google doesn't want to rank a new site high because there's no telling how long it will be up.

The older sites show Google longevity, therefore (generally) the higher ranking.

I personally think age is very important. I almost always buy a domain post a couple of articles and just let it sit for about 6 months. Then I always tend to rank better for the domain once I really start promoting it.

yep Ive got a domain that was registered back in 2001 that ranks nicely for many terms without me building links to it.

I had same experienced, around 9 month ago I created an affiliate landing page for ppc, but I wasn't success with it. Forgot for long time 1.5 month ago I login my hosting and found it then went to check traffic stats I was surprised site ranking bing and yahoo first page for a high competitive keywords. when I went to my site to check my all affiliate link was broken then I just replace working affiliate link then started getting sales, one month $600 then I sold the site for $2500 and o yes, I bought a domain for few bucks that was register in 2005. I start a site with it and checked web archive I am feeling bit lucky, cause 2005 to 2008 the guy was running same niche site with same keyword, whatever today i am running. I am start ranking in google so quickly. my keyword competition kinda nightmare. So here is my opinion old domain doesn't help but if it is running old site then yes they do. :thinking:

The age of the domain is not important, you can buy domain names with 14 years and is not live and will not make any difference. If you have a website that have been 5 years LIVE/ONLINE/With a site. That makes a difference.

I have tested many times buying old domain names (was a waste of time btw).
