To open an online E-commerce store you only need a few things. 1) A website 2) Products 3)Card Processor/check-out.
Now-a-days, you can drop-ship products so you don't have to hold any inventory, and responding to customer complaints/questions has become increasingly easier to the point that it can be managed entirely through a smart-phone. What I'm saying is that managing multiple sites that sell physical products has become easier, while expected expenses have decreased to the point that I think it's beneficial to concentrate on multiple sites with mediocre sales instead of 1 large hugely successful site.
What's stopping someone from creating 5 or 20 mediocre e-commerce stores. Maybe these sites don't perform as well as if you concentrated on 1 site, but with multiple websites combined, selling a product every now and then on each site would be OK and each additional site created would lead to another possible chance of selling something daily. Maybe some of the sites don't perform well, but you can always shut-down the losers and keep the winners.
Why do we struggle to create 1 largely successful website when we could create as many streams of income as possible. Obviously earnings must exceed expenses, but the monthly expense of maintaining a website is forever diminishing while the ability to create and maintain multiple sites is becoming easier.
I'm just bouncing ideas around and would like to hear other's thoughts on the idea of managing multiple mediocre sites instead of 1 largely successful sites.
