Need Some Advice Making Websites

One thing that's really holding me back is being able to make a website. I really suck at it. Here's what I normally do.

Buy a domain
Install wordpress
Spend 9375983 hours installing and configuring plugins.
Get so frustrated because nothing turns out how I want it.

The formatting is always fucked up. I know how stuff is supposed to look based on other examples I see.

Then I get caught in this trap of spending money to make just a simple lander and end up losing money instead of selling a product or a service and just say fuck it all.

For example, I really want to resell fiverr gigs. Make packages of 2 or 3 gigs throw a little margin on there and advertise.

Problem is I can't even make a blogger page look good.

What I really want to do is make an affiliate website base around 1 product and advertise the fuck out of that and rinse and repeat.

I get so discouraged because I can never finish a 1 page lander and make it look decent so I don't even try for an affiliate site.

Simple answer is just pay someone else to do it. However I don't make enough money to justify spending it on something I don't know will return my investment.

Ideas? Suggestions? Methods?

Not looking for spoonfeeding, I'm trying shit on my own. Just failing so hard at everything. Hell I can't even make a PPD lander for a game hack to get a conversion.

What are some resources or threads you could point me to?

If you're looking to build good looking affiliate sites quickly, you can use tools/services built specific to that purpose. Profitbuilder is a good option with tons of built-in themes and templates. You can build LPs, squeeze pages, full scale niche sites etc. If you prefer to use wordpress, thrive content builder is a good option too.

Which theme are you using? If it's a free one, it's very likely that almost no effort went into it. The developer probably just made the "live preview" look immaculate, but when you start modifying stuff, it falls apart at the seams, and you can't "fix" it like you could with HTML/CSS, because everything is hidden away, and you go crazy. I suffered through this before coming upon the realization that...

...paid themes handle modifications much better. If it's a serious project, head to Themeforest and spend $40 - $60 on a professional theme. It's like a whole different world. Finding the perfect one takes time, but the developers must put out good products or suffer bad reviews, and from those bad reviews, no sales.

Consider making everything close to perfect, making a list of things you want revised, and then heading to Fiverr. A ton of people offer WP modifications on there.

What I've done is this. Let's say I have... 20 changes that I need on different parts of the site. Am I going to pay $100 for those changes? Hell no. Most of them probably take 30 seconds as long as the person knows what he's doing.

So go through the new WP modification gigs, and send them all messages saying "hey, I need all of these changes, can you do it for four gigs? I will rate it you 5* and leave a phenomenal review"

Send enough of these messages and someone will bite, or they'll come back and say "no, but I'll do it for six!" - which is still fine... hours of headache saved for $30

So let's say you need to buy six gigs... whatever. Now you've found a fantastic theme for $40 to $60, you've spent some time and made it look exactly as you want to minus a couple of minor changes, and you have those ironed out for a few payments of $5.

If you can't afford that, go with a free theme and execute the same strategy, but it takes a lot longer to find a "good" free theme.

Anyways, that, in my opinion, is how you do WordPress. Learning everything yourself is way too time-consuming, and judging by your post, you want to be selling stuff, not learning the intricacies of WP design.

EDIT: forgot to mention, forget plugins. Find a theme where at least one page (or even one section of one page) of the live preview looks somewhat similar to what you want, or else there's no guarantee that it won't be a headache to make it look like you want... if that makes sense. there are so many themes out there that this isn't hard. better to spend more time looking for a good theme than tearing your hair out with the CSS.

It might do you good to learn some HTML and CSS, and try building a theme from scratch using Thematic in Wordpress. Sure, it's an extreme way of doing things, but you'll eventually find that a lot of stuff can be achieved with no plugins and just a bit of Googling.

If you are going to get a plugin, get Visual Composer. It will make the whole layout thing a lot easier.
