Questions about a domain I found

So I found a domain that has the following metrics

DA: 48
PR: 4
TF: 10
CF:31

Amount of backlinks:230,655
Referring domains: 1,757

To me the referring domains seem really excessive. Is this generally a red flag?This domain is only 1 year old to is a red flag to me.
Any redflags with these metrics?

You can't really say based only on that info alone.

Check into web archive and see what was on that website before and you can see if it seems legit. Also check the top backlinks manually (ahrefs,majestic,opensiteexplorer,semrush) and see if they are natural or spammy. See in ahrefs or majestic the top anchors used. If there are any above 5-10% it's definitely suspicious. If there are any viagra, ugg boots or any chinese characters run away!

Could be a spammy domain, Just go to majestic.com, check the domain's anchor cloud. Also go to archive.org and see what was the site all about.

I think you can assume it as good website by only this information. Just do the complete analysis of that domain.

Trash! My thoughts exactly. If I had any doubts on if it would be trash or not I would have not posted the name here for everyone to see. It looked suspicious to me.

It's clearly spammy and that's the kind of domain I'm immediately suspicious of even before carrying out any research into its history and examining its link profile. The biggest red flag is the big difference between the ratio of the referring domains to the backlinks.

Also link metrics tell you literally noting about a domain these days.

Whenever the Citation Flow is a lot larger than the Trust Flow, the domain will turn out be spammy. The reason for this is that spammy links generally come from websites that have less trust and high link equity. Hence, One of the first filters when checking domains is the ration of TF to CF.

Also it is worth noting that out of the 4 metrics you have pasted, TF is the hardest to manipulate (not impossible though). Over the coming year, I am sure we will see many more people move over to TF and the ratio of TF/CF (from PR, DA) to evaluate the worth of a domain's back links.

OK and how can you tell from these metrics that the site didnt get picked up by a spambot or nSEOed?

I can tell you that my sites values look even worse than this, but it is pretty darn sucessful and a legit brand. - No link penalties either.

These metrics literally tell you noing beyond that someon probably built some bad links to it at some point.

However, in 2015 bad links do not mean anything anymore. With my brands google simply ignores them and counts the 200 legit ones.

The only way to figure out if the site is truly spammy is to see if it ranks... if it does good, if not then it got penalized.

If domain has huge amount of links and less domains it is potential spam. But it could be a great domain, too (very rare if you look for at popular services like expireddomains.net). You just need to check it carefully. It is not easy with free services but: check at majesticseo how much links is per domain. Sometimes 90% of links come from one or two domains. Then check if this links are spammy or just site-wide. If side-wide domain should be ok, but many gurus recommend to void this type of links.

If you have the resources to build out every single domain you find and to wait to see if it ranks, then that's really great. But when you have thousands of domains to choose from and not an infinite amount of time to spend on finding the good ones, looking at the metrics can really help.

When I find a domain, these are the steps I perform before I buy it

1. Check TF and TF/CF ratio
2. Check Anchor Text for spammy keywords/foreign keywords
3. Check the top back links and check whether they seem real or artificially placed
4. Check wayback archive to see whether the domain was abused previously
5. Check whether domain was previously indexed by Google. (if its expired, it may not currently be indexed)
