Alexa trading club?

A colleague of mine was going to start an Alexa trading club about a year ago, but never did anything with it.

As far as I know it would have been the first of it's kind and I thought I'd see what you guys thought before I went and created it myself.

With all this talk about alexa scripts, which to a more "business" oriented guy like me is really confusing stuff that no one seems to know if they even work, I thought why not just have an Alexa trading club?

Why does BHW have such a great Alexa rank? Because probably 90% of it's members have the alexa toolbar.

So it stands to reason that if you want a really low alexa rank to sell ad space, be taken seriously, or whatever reason you need a low Alexa, why not just have a few thousand people popping up your site each day in exchange for you doing the same on yours?

so, the trade site would exchange visits with each other. sounds interesting but doesn't Alexa take into account time spent on the site, so you would have to figure out how long you would have to spend on a site for it to count. I would think that there would be a bot that could do this.

I've found that time spent has nothing to do with rank, or at least very little. I did a mini experiment with 26 friends.

We all visited each others sites for a quick second each day with the alexa toolbar installed and within days the alexas on every site were dropping.

I heard that apparently alexa views each visit as about 25 visits because they consider that 1 in every 25 internet users has the toolbar installed.

I can't believe that is a true statement, mostly because alexa can't possibly believe that. Regardless, the method worked well and I can only imagine that if you could create a credit system for toolbar users, it could be used to generate great alexa ranks on all member sites.

That could be cool, would the group be in a forum like affiliate trades or in a tool bar.

I have created a piece of software that lets you input all your sites and will go to the Alexa redirect link for those sites. The only thing I have left to do is build in a proxy list so that I can visit these sites a bunch of times.

I experimented with visiting my sites every 30 minutes through the Alexa link and my ranks improved a little. I still think Alexa is a big waste of time, but if I can make money off of it, I love it!
