very interesting. indeed.
Would love to see what Google plans to do next.
subscribed.

I see a lot of turbulence in my niche, something is definitelly has been going on

Definitely something strange happening. I posted 4 days ago some results with this being another update.

Website 1 - Quality Link Building: Pretty much completely recovered and back to where it was prior to penguin update in October. I did remove lots of links and disavowed ones I couldn't.

Website 2 - PBN and Web 2.0: Ranking back on first page, but only for keywords directly related to the title tag. I did submit a disavow tool for this also, didn't even bother removing links.

Website 3 - Pure fucking spam: This is been jumping up and down for a week now, nothing to first page - the highest was page 5 - and I don't think this will stick. It'll be pushed back down or de-indexed for sure.

Website 4 - PBN links from BHW sellers and GSA: Still gone. N/A on most keywords and don't expect it to recover at all. Can't even be fucked attempting to remove links.

As for the OP, I don't thing that this is a "complete roll back" and it's very silly to think so based on your results only. Also I wouldn't be too quick on screaming "I beat the system", we still don't really know what's happening. I can tell you this, none of my websites that contain quality content, reference based content, great editorial links or moderate guest posting have been hit. In-fact, they're been climbing up since Penguin 3.0.

Was about to say that, they are "loosing" now with Firefox deal and probably will loose even more in future.
I don't think they just rolled back those updates for nothing (if they really rolled them back) they are planing something and we will find out soon i think.

No changes for me. Well, I didn't lose anything on penguin either :)

No offense OP, but this has got to be 1 of the dumbest titles I've ever read in my life.

I'm fairly confident Google did NOT roll back "all" their penguin updates dating back almost 3 years.

I DO believe something strange is going on but I can't stand when people make unfounded claims and pretend to know shit they know they don't know.

This "unfounded claim" was produced from direct data I took. Sure the title is a bit "off-putting" but this does appear to be what happened. I'm seeing sites previously harmed in the very first penguin incarnation (note I'm not seeing just one or two come back, but hundreds, usually those that used crappy PBNs back in 2012) are back on page 1 for terms with a few hundred thousand exact match monthly searches. These sites have done no link building really since, but are back to their previous positions.

I consider this rollback to be almost a complete dismantling of Penguin, as far as I can tell. Spam is everywhere again, and I mean everywhere, even if the domains have been long abandoned (and I'm talking about competitors, not my own sites largely, though all of my sites are back as well).

I've had a penguined site move from +50 to #10/11 but happened about 10 days ago- no disavow et al...

Big ups for Penguin 3.0 impacted sites and some older sites resurrected from the grave. Also a little bit looser on filter now in some niches, whereas other niches are still pretty tight.

So does this mean nothing has changed?

Because the algo made "good" sites tank and spam sites to the top. They then release an algo to reverse it. Now another algo to reverse the reverse. And it continues.

Is that how it works? Which is why I see a few people suggest: don't do shit to your tanked sites but build new ones. The old will come back and the cycle continues.

Agreed. It sounds so stupid Google rolling back all the penguin updates till date. I mean I am not able to think of any single logic behind this. Moreover I read at some authority blog that Google might be planning to make Penguin a continuously rolling update in future.

Thanks and yes, that's the same exact thing I read.

Apparently, Penguin is turning into a continuous update which to me spells good news. I have an old site that wasn't ranking to well (stopped SEO on it like a year ago) and after this update it keeps bouncing on and off page 1. Although rankings aren't stable, traffic has almost tripled now.

Continuous updates = quicker recovery which is good for SEO's. On the other hand, if updates are gonna be nonstop that should make the SERPS a lot more volatile than they already are.

Not a problem man. The only reason I got on your case is cause you typically post smart stuff / don't generalize like that.

I haven't done enough research to see that "spam is everywhere again". IMHO.... spam has always been everywhere. If there's been a true, statistically significant increase... I see that as a good thing. The only thing I'm suspect about is the "end". Cause if this update is "ongoing" that means it's never gonna end which means the SERPS are gonna be changing at a rate never seen before.

Exactly my point. It is good from the point of view of those websites which are trying to recover from the penalty in future as they won't have to wait for the next penguin update for that to roll back the penalty. Though the SERPs instabilities is going to be a problem for seo agencies especially in terms of showing the result to the clients.. I mean who know what it comes out to be on top 10 when checked at client's end ;)

it had to be continuous since the beginning

i think they just figured out a way to make it doable

this should prevent spam and bank / churn and burn sites

Big movement for me. 3 of my porn sites had a bunch of keywords jump 200+ positions

Interesting. I have seen good movement and happy most of my sites survived but didn't see anything that looked like a rollback.

Spam has always been everywhere, but there was a cycle of spam in and out of niches, new sites up and down over the years. People who keep comparing their tiny shitty micro niche sites they built 6 months ago that they lost in Penguin 3.0, this isn't even what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the first two major updates, which have both seemingly evaporated. Everything's back, and I mean everything. Whether they're at the exact spot (#3 now when they were #1 back in 2012) notwithstanding, it appears that this recent Penguin update just made spam links very valuable again. I can only imagine this was a mistake, but perhaps it was Google's intention to do this.

Google "accidentally" rolls things out into the real algorithm all the time. Their simulation tools for updating has always been quite lackluster, from my experience.

My guess is they're going to run a thorough re-crawl. So many small businesses got hammered by Penguin and I'm sure most of them don't even know what SEO is, but their bigger competitors do. It's quite a fucked situation when a small business enters a niche, brand new with a smile and some asshole burns their domain down and collects their insurance money. Google really screwed up and they know that if they don't pull their heads out their asses, search will burn.

Basically look at what Netmoney1 said. Also take a look at http://www.europarl.europa.eu/news/...ro-in-on-internet-search-companies-and-clouds plus the 'right to be forgotten' is being forced with Yahoo,Bing taking that on also. There is a lot happening, and sure, throw money at shit and most of the time you win. However, money is pretty fucking useless in war.
