Google is ranking another page nor I want

My website has two different pages A and B which has the same keyword, the most of my backlinks are linked to page A, but for that keyword google is ranking page B. Where is the problem? Page A has only 100 words content and Page B has 300 words content. So maybe it is because page B has more content then page A?

Are you trying to rank 2 pages for the same terms ? Why would you do that ?

Yup. Content could be a factor. Basically Google ranks the more optimized page so go ahead and check keyword density, meta description, tags, etc.

This is called keyword cannibalism. Better write one quality article about your KW and merge the two pages. You can 301 redirect page A to page B since page B is already ranking.

If you are doing A/B testing, the best practice is to don't index the testing site with robots. Google will index the best optimized page.

PS: In case that your website is a wordpress, there are a lot of useful plugins that help you with the indexation.

Page B content isn't for SEO purposes and keyword is a little bit different from Page A (I guess I badly formulated my problem in the first post). Lets say that Page A keyword is "Cars in New York" and Page B keywords is "Red cars in New York", so google was raking Page B for the keyword which is targeted in Page A. After I have changed my 100 words content in Page A to 300 words high quality article everything went OK. Google is already ranking Page A for my main keyword and my rankings went up from 24 to 17.

100 words isn't much. 300 words isn't much either. Between the 2 pages, page B has 3 times as many words. So, ignoring writing quality, keyword densities and other stuff, page B simply has more content.

I know if I had a choice between the 2 pages, I'd choose the page with 300 words, all other things being equal.
