Hi guys, I'm a newbie at pinterest and I've set up a board and l want to make the most out of the traffic on pinterest. But I'm not really understanding how pinterest works. Could you please explain to me how I can build up a following of my own on pinterest ?

Are you trying to use Pinterest to drive traffic to your website, send me to affiliate products, etc.?

I'm not planning on using a site right now. Direct affiliate marketing for now

don't ever post affiliate links directly on pinterest, drive traffic to your site first and then do what you like with them from there but directly off pinterest is shooting your self in the foot.

never ever do on pinterest
1) Do not post affiliate links directly
2) Do not change pin urls ( the pin must be where the link leads to)
3) Do not pin to group boards ( just not worth the risk)
4) Do not focus all on one account ( if you lose one account you lose everything)
5) Do not over pin ( show restraint and play the long game, lost self control = lost account)

Thanks for the tips bro. Any tips on how to gain followers ?

Follow people and RePin, Like and Comment on their pins. it should work.

I have done all of that except for commenting and it's not working that good. Followed around 400 people and only got 10 to follow back

The more followers you have the more people will usually follow you back I've found. At 11,000 followers my main account gets 15-20% follow back, just have a good looking account. I mean you've got a profile picture that looks like a real person, and 10-15 boards with pins in them right?

Just make Boads, in boads add pins and get followers and linkers. More followers will give more traffic and sales.

In addition to the posts above, you can also increase your followers by:

  • Comment on popular pins
Leave meaningful comments; don't just stick to ‘nice' or ‘good'. Leave comments that make people want to check out your profile. Comment two or three times a day though, if you comment too much your profile may get banned. Comment on popular pins that have been repined and commented upon.

  • Mention other people
When you're pinning something, mention other people where applicable. Perhaps give them a compliment. This will further bring you in notice of more people.

  • Connect your social Network
Connect your other social networks to Pinterest to attract your friends in those networks to your Pinterest account.

  • Contribute to other boards that have more followers.
This is pretty much self-explanatory.
I think the rest is pretty much covered in the thread already.

Where do you get the content for your pins from? do you buy/create yourself or just download from the internet, upload to your site and pin it?

Any advices are very welcome!

Isn't it better to have just 1 board per account ?

absolutely not, just one board per account screams " hey i am in marketing and bot user" you want people to not tell the difference between you and a normal pinterest user. the average user has 10+ boards and so should you. If two people advise you to buy two different products, one of them has just one board and only posts products for sale and the other has 10 or more different boards and pins all kinds of different stuff which one looks like he/she has less incentive to offer you a certain product. they one that only posts that product to one board is clearly working for that company in some form but the person with many boards and pins a mix of everything feels more like a friend who has no reason to suggest that item other than they used it and were very impressed with it so they want there friends to have the same great item. so no it is a terrible idea to have just one board

when you first start off that is how it will be but the more you do it your percentage will go up, now if i follow 400 i get a minimum of 100 follow backs because i have lots of followers already so people want to follow me back and i have over 5k pins to my account that might interest them. so keep going it will improve with time
