Keep on top of links being built to your site. If you put in your URL you should see (once they get crawled) the spam sh*t pointing at your site if any has been built.

You can't prevent it, but you could fight it out by disavowing links daily, not much else you can do at this point I think.

Unfortunately you can not control what your competitors are doing. Even it is unethical practice, a lot of companies do negative SEO for their competitors in order to rank higher, but you know, karma will find them
