Keyword stuffing ranking drop

Hi people,

I came back from a birthday of a friend of mine, when i saw the rankings of my site dropped. One keyword i am focussing on dropped from 18 to 113, other keywords dropped also 10-30 places. Strange thing is that my brand name didnt drop and a long tail dropped 2-3 places to #7. As far as i can see that doesnt have to be a penalty (no message yet in WMT).

Backlinks are from my PBN and blog posts. Not spammy at all, my PBN is still ranking fine. One thing i can remember is that i added some of my keywords to the content 2 days ago. Also in the h2 and h3. Could this be a drop because of this stuffing? And can i recover? I immediately removed the extra keywords.

It could be, yeah. Any time you change on-page SEO, you are directly affecting it's relevance and ultimately it's position in the SERPS. 18 to 113 is a pretty big drop, so see where you are in a week or so once you've reverted back to the previous version. If the drop sticks after 2+ weeks, there may be something else going on that needs further investigation.

Depends on the amount of stuffing I guess. How do you know your PBN didn't get hit though?

If it's a new site, it could also just be a Google dance. See what happens in a few weeks, after you've changed the content back to the way it was.

my site is about 3,5 months old, so dont know if thats old. Its funny to see that the keyword who i used the most are hit the most. My primair keyword has anchor of 13% is that to much by the way?

I doubt seriously that an onpage change hurt you that much. Unless you added unrelated keywords.

I also doubt that if you made a change, it would be crawled in two days unless you did a fetch as Googfe bot from within WMT.

Even if you did a fetch as GB, I doubt the change would have hit two days after the fetch.

I suspect your problem lies somewhere else.

Techxan yea i believe i did a fetch, and the two days were estimated. I believe it was 4-5 days ago exactly. What could be the problem Techxan? You have any suggestions please?

Me too.. Not hijacking this thread but I have the same problem, after posting to my PBN maybe 1 or 2 weeks, my rank drops from #7 to 100+ from my targeting keyword but some of the keywords that I am not targeting remains.

Your PBN's aren't, would be my guess, but I have not looked at your site, and 13% keyword density (with very few exceptions) is keyword stuffing for sure.

Have you made any other content changes? Did you lose some really good links?

If you added related keywords, when you moved down on your main, did you gain somewhere else?

The keywords that remain are the keywords you are targeting. You obviously intended to target your main keyword, and missed.

Either that or you have used so much anchor text that you have diminished your rankings for that one keyword.

I also bet that your PBN isn't as private as you think.

I am starting to think that Goofle has wised up to the PBN thing, and are not giving the full effect of new links from newer domains.

I know that it takes a while to deliver a links full effect, about 5 months or so from what I have seen over the years in general, and I suspect that if the links come from a new(ish) domain, Goofle is now building a longer time buffer into it to see if the links fall away.

My site has some very good scores on loading time. It had 85/100 at google pagespeed and an "A" on GTmetrix. My loading time is still 5-10 seconds, could that be the problem?

It may or may not be keyword density related. How are your backlinks, I mean, have you lost any important ones?

Nope nothing, every backlink is still online. I am not very experienced in SEO, but i really think it's not a backlink problem. My loading speed of my site was 10 seconds, i brought it back to 2 seconds, lets check if that was the problem.

Yes! it went back from 130 to 68 today

Keyword stuffing is not good for SEO at all, but white-hat SEO methods will bring back your site rankings again.
