So I've recently finished a silly app that started out as a joke. But my friends started sharing it like crazy. I think that, by any standards, it may become what we call 'viral'.
Since it's the first thing anything like this ever happened to me, I have no idea what to do next.
So how do I monetize it? when is the best moment to start monetizing it?

(I'm talking about a simple web app, a few web pages glued together to do something funny. Social sharing is included, of course)

Most important thing in these situations is to collect their emails. Sites don't "stay viral" after all...

Offer them something they can' t refuse in exchange for their emails and you're set for a long time.

thanks guys.

my app needs a simple registration (one field so far, username) in order to start using, and everyone's been doing it so far, so adding one more field for the email shouldn't bump up the bounce rate so much, I guess.

Once I have their email, what kind of offers can you shoot young people in college? (french?) I think (in my rather uninformed vision) that direct email marketing for young, tech-savvy people is kind of pointless, in terms of ROI?

Why should it be pointless? With the right offers you can make a nice Return.

For that particular demo, I would promote dating/edu/job/muscle related offers.

Or even a simple tee-spring campaign targeting "computer geeks" could work as well. The only con about this method is that the INTL shipping fee will cost more in comparison to the US.

Now here's a cool idea I didn't think about. I may search for something similar locally, here in France.
Thanks, mate!

Mobile PIN related offer can make you hell of money in France. I used to get $100+ a day with 6 convertion only.

I don't see how my question would represent, in any way, spamming people, though.
I was talking abut spamming your users, not this thread. Try to grow your audience in the beginning, don't start offering crap immediately

wow. That seems so...far from reality, my reality, I can't even conceive it. Could you tell me a tad bit more about it?

oh, sorry. Misinterpreted your reply there.
Thanks for the heads up. I'll take care, even more so, since I wouldn't know what I'd be doing.

Well that was from fileice, a content locker associated with downloadable files. Fileice is closed nowadays tho, but im pretty sure you can find other CPA network with PIN offer from France.

Then find a good thing to promote or offer to your visitor, use a content locker with that kind of CPA offer and bank !

So, how many users you have? 100, 1000?
didn't implement the email grabbing yet. 188 connections per day and rising, via analytics.
how's that in terms of IM? (considering the traffic is rather targeted)
