How does tumblr marketing work?

I always see people talking about how tumblr is a goldmine but how does it work? Is it like pinterest or facebook? how do you go about getting traffic to your pages etc?

Not seen any method on it yet and am not familiar with how it works.

Well, It's pretty easy to get traffic to your site from tumblr. Start your blog, get some bots to automate the process, post a lot of content, follow people so they can follow you back. After you build up a nice account with some followers, create another blog and use your bigger tumblr blog to gain followers to your new tumblr. After you get like 2-3k followers, start posting pictures with your link in them. Come up with a creative description for your pictures to draw attention. That's basically It - more followers, more traffic.
