I have a couple of big competitors and I would love to be able to steal some of their followers as they are perfectly targeted for my site.

I can obviously click through and follow them all in the hope that they follow me but are there any better ways? I used to use Tweet Attacks but I really can't risk my main account getting banned.

Where would I start?

It would be best to reach out one-by-one and interact with them than just mass following. May be basic but it works.

Basic but effective.

So the best thing to do is follow each one of them and retweet or favorite their last tweet. It should catch their attention

My advice is mass follow. I follow about 50 every hour and generally 15-19 follow back within a day. It takes patience my friend.

You can also add in some favoriting as well. Find a nice popular keyword in your niche you're going after and favorite those tweets. That's another way to get your niche followers

You can try: Tweeting while tagging usernames
Fav/Retweeting competitor's followers, And following them too

HOWEVER, takes time and effort.

Building up your social networks does takes some serious time and effort.
Finding those people in your niche that are active and post something of worth can be a headache in itself.
Following them and interacting with there posts, starring up a few of there posts, shouting them out.
This is no quick method to getting people to be engaged with what you do, but they will almost forever stay active in your network, once earned.
All this stuff helps for more people to recognize you, your brand, and or business or whatever it is that you do.
Patience and time are really the best ways to go about it, unless you have some incentive for them to start following or joining your social networks.

If you want to save time learn to use iMacros for following. Or some type of click automator. But if you want to keep your account safe, your best bet is to keep it in the browser (for automation), not a bot that tries to emulate a browser.

Mass Follow is best method or you can use a software to mention them one by one but it has risk of suspension

This is an excellent bit of advice. Scrape all of your competitor's followers. Make sure you've got some content up and you're happy with the way your account looks. Follow their followers slowly and take your time to interact with them. Many people don't realize how valuable having a list like this is.
