What's the Point of Backordering Services?

I've been trying my hand at using a few services like Namejet and Snap Names the past week and have been having a terrible time. I realise the importance of using several services, yet I've been the only bidder on about 8 domains and the backordering services have only managed to secure just one domain, which is obviously a very low success rate.

Even though I've been the only bidder, the statuses have changed from pending deletion to wishlist in Namejet, for example, which begs the question what is the point of using these services? Maybe I'm being cynical but it seems as if these services are kind of shady, and the more research I do the more I find others saying the same.

Is such a low success rate normal?

I found their success rate to be low as well. There is software that can do this for you. Mike Gora made http://domainauctionsniper.com/ which does that for you. Less expensive than the services and this thing actually works. There are other tools like this as well that can be grabbed on the market.

PS I am not affiliated.

Yes when you use only one service, you need to backorder the same domain with multiple services, Namejet, Snapnames, Pool, godaddy etc ... I normally submit the same domain to at least 5 services ... even with me using 5 services out of 10 domains I will be happy to get 5 registered .. out of those 5 there will be 2 at least going through an auction due to multiple backorders

Dropped domains may not be your best choice if you are in rush, other options like buying expiring domains could be better as you know you are bidding on a domain owned by a specific company (Godaddy, networksolutions etc)

That software is made to automate GoDaddy auctions...how is this connected with domain catch services?
