Money Making advice

I have a job working about 30 hours a week making a pretty good money, good benefits etc. I'd like to eventually move from "pretty good" to "very good". I've tried various methods that I've found on here with no success. I haven't put a lot of effort in affiliate marketing so that's something I'm considering, but I'm worried about the time commitment. I don't want to dedicate more than about 10-14 hours a week to this because of my job and my family.

I made a few freelance websites that I think are pretty good, but that market is pretty saturated. I've not had success getting work on odesk, freelancer, etc. My skillset includes excellent math and statistics (I'm actually a math professor at a small liberal arts college), but I've not found a way to personally monetize it. I've also worked as a data analyst, but all the jobs I found for that are either full time or on the freelance sites where I'm having trouble breaking in.

So what I'm asking here is for advice. What would you experts think is the best way to begin making money with such a small time commitment? Do you think there is a market for data analyst freelance work with some of the SEO folks in this community?

You should organize your ideas and reinvest some of the money you are making with your job into a project. If you have money to invest everything becomes easier because you can outsource most of the work like content creation and seo. Sometimes its best to work on the things you love like your expertise in mathematics but IM is so big that you can make money with things that you wouldn't previously think about. The important thing for you to keep in mind is that you have to target things other people are interested in, the market dictates the rules.

I had same problem as you are facing... but I was stick with my work and did a lot of hard work on it to earn money online.... now I got some good clients and and making money online... I would advice you to be stick one of the freelance website and get your work done.

Personally I started with micro niche sites (MNS), and ended up making decent money from them. You can buy ready made MNS from the marketplace, or build them yourself, doesn't really matter. If you're not confident in making it work, buy one and then learn how to do it yourself by looking at the one made by someone who knows his stuff.

I can only talk from my experience. I have got my best results from having my own products. Create a product that helps a group of people get what they want. (It shouldn't be make money online if you havn't made any) maybe a simple software tool or info product. make sure it fits a need then market the pants out of it

Pretty niche and that work is basically getting a second job, better to learn a new skill that can bring you a passive income. I would build a niche specific blog network with high pr domains and sell link rentals on it.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Just not sure where to start. I'm totally new to IM and don't want to waste my time on outdated methods.
