Hello everyone! Today I thought I would do a write up on one of the ways I am doing keyword research that is working incredibly well.

What you will need:
Time
Google Keyword Planner
Google News

The Method

So if there is one thing I would like to think I am decent at in the game, it is keyword research. I have ranked some tough terms, but these are always a pain in the ass and I typically like to go for more sites focusing on low hanging fruit. You can lower the amount of money you spend on SEO as well as diversify your risk if a particular site gets hit.

You have all heard of launch jacking I am sure, but if you have not, you basically use the buzz of a newly launched product, create a site around it targetting keywords people have not optimized for, and drive traffic from quick rankings.

This is no different, but instead of doing the typical clickbank/jvzoo launch jack (which I have been playing around with lately), I decided to show you how I do this with Amazon (or any other affiliate program you want, the possibilities are endless).

Step 1: Head over to Google News

Once you are at Google news, put "announced" into the search bar, and sit back. Scroll through the results until you find a new product being launched. If you are going for an amazon product, the new product may not be out yet, but make to check to see that the previous version is being sold. As you can see, I had to get to page 37 to find something I liked, but here is what I found.

So the game has not been officially announced yet, but as you can see, Just Cause 3 is probably going to be announced soon! I went over to amazon and noticed that Just Cause 2 is being sold for 15-40 dollars. Not the best, but driving people to amazon will make sales, so this is a good start.

Step 2: Make sure the product or previous versions have good searches/month (you do not want to waste your time)

So now that I have found a product to promote, I want to make sure that the previous version had some decent searches (proof of concept) so that I know that attempting to rank for new keywords will bring traffic and thus money. I head over to the keyword planner and put in some typical keywords. Do so more digging and I am sure you can find many more.

Alright, looks like this game had a lot of buzz about it, and still does. Excellent! That means if you can rank for these terms for the new game, you WILL get traffic and be able to convert them into sales/get them on your email list/whatever you are best at.

Step 3: Make sure you can rank for new keywords you have selected

So one of the final steps is to open up an incognito window and actually check the SERPS manually. I have people asking me almost every day how I do keyword research and know how competitive searches are. The simple answer is go LOOK! No tool is going to tell you, and if they do, it is most likely shit. Open up the serps, take a look at the top 5-10. and use your brain.

As you can see, not a single top 5 result is optimized for just cause 3 review. Not ONE. Can you imagine how easy this would be to rank number 1 with just on page SEO? Bingo, dead simple.

Step 4: Do some research to create an article

This is really a no brainer. Go find information on this possible game release, and write up a good article and pepper it with some of the keywords you found in the keyword planner. Obviously you will not know all of the information since nothing official has been released, but you can give an overview while putting in keywords you want to rank for. Include affiliate links to the previous version (as some people will want to play just to catch up on the storyl ine) and you are set. You can always go back and update the affiliate links when the new game is out.

That is it. Very simple, Extremely effective. Keep in mind that most of your money may or may not come from the product you are promoting depending on what type of product you want to launch jack.

One of the stories I like to tell people is that when I first started, I was selling toys on amazon worth about 20-30 dollars and getting penny commissions. Imagine my shock when one day I open up the dashboard and had sold a 6,000 dollar piano tuner. Hello $360 commission!

Go forth and make money!

Great method, man. Awesome way to get low competition, highly searched keywords.

I kinda disagree with step 3 in terms of competition, but overall, you gave me some nice ideas bro :)

Thanks!

I agree with Royserpa about the competiton levels and those sites will very soon be releasing their view of that new game. Although it's a great idea to help find new niches. You can even use the same method but with your niche by typing in a broad term like diets or game, then looking through the news!

Well they are not out yet, BUT, I only used it as an example. Obviously you should try to find something niche relevant, and this is the first product I came across today that I thought would work.

Simple, yet very effective Keyword Research, this is a fantastic share.

I imagine this is pretty much a C&B project, as there would be no way to keep ranking after serious gaming website compete for the same KW. How long before the product launch do you start your link building?

Very nice share. This will compliment the project I am just starting, thanks :-)

I honestly just see what I can find and see if I have any domains in the niche I could use. I never use this as the ONLY thing, only to get some spikes in traffic and extra sales on sites I am already running.

I believe most of us die at getting links.. a new site for trending product? how many article is needed? and most importantly how much is enough? $1000 for seo?

The point is that you are finding a term to target that no one else has targeted yet so you really do not need links. Just a single article on a domain you already have with proper onpage SEO. All you need is time, not 1,000 dollars, although you can certainly make 1k using this method.

I like the common sense method of step 3. Many people get wrapped up in this number or that statistic, and they really just need to think for a moment about the ranking sites.

Really solid method, and obviously from a source with enough proven experience.

Thanks for showing us a great tool for searching new trends.

What about putting product name or game name in my url? Like productReview(d o t)sufix. I think it can put us in trouble if the name is trademarked or we play too much with big companies. What is your opinion? Is it worth trying or it is better to take safer domain name.

I always add the reviews to sites that I already own, so it would look like this www.brandableURL.com/product-review.

Agree with other about competition...I would rather stay at jvzoo,cb,markethealt new products and churn & burn them

I did this for one of the FIFA games a couple of years ago (before the game launched that is). Can confirm you get a LOT of easy traffic. Unfortunately i wasn't experienced enough to monetize it properly.
