Questions about silo structuring...

Hi guys

I started a WP blog a few months ago now and I want to change it's structure as I'm still hovering on page 2 of Google after all this time and 180 posts. I've been reading many glowing remarks about silo structure so I've been wondering about that.

However, I'm not sure whether it's right for me or how to implement it as my blog is really about only one topic.

Would I be best just sorting my posts into categories (I have all of my posts uncategorized) or some other form of sorting or would it be best to silo structure everything?

Everything should be sorted one way or another. Why didn't you have categories from the beginning? 180 unorganized posts is just sloppy.

Just because he didn't silo before doesn't mean everything is "unorganized".

My main business site was organized in a certain way. When I initially made the site I THOUGHT I was "silo'n" it. I had read silo'n was putting pages in groups, and that's what I did.

Over the years, the site took on more pages and I figured out a much more intuitive way to organize it. So now I also want to silo my entire site.

Only thing I'm worried about is it dropping rank.....

This is the silo structure I try to follow on my website. After the ebola update, i thought that that would be the perfect time for me to adjust my on-page optimization and implement silo structure since all my rankings were gone.

I know for a fact that my website isn't the PERFECT silo website out there. There is some leakage, but at the same time, there is SOME organization of link juice flow through related pages.

My home page links to each of the silo landing pages (in this case, my category pages).

In each of my silo landing pages, there is a secondary menu that links to the other silo landing pages.
Each silo landing page also links to all the "sub" posts that fit under that category.

Each of my subposts link to other subposts within the came category via a secondary menu. Each subpost also links back to the parent silo landing page that it fits under.

I accomplished this through some plugins.
Try your best to not leak juice from one post into unrelated posts. To me, silo structure is kind of like connecting related posts together in a more solidified way.

True siloing needs to be planned from the out set to be really effective. But for a site with content already I would build the silo on a "spare" domain, that will not be indexed. Get the structure right and then clone back to your money site.

I know that some silo structures follow a home page-> silo landing page ->category page -> sub post.

I suggest that you read more about it and follow what you think is suitable for your site

I am not an expert at web design or php or html editing, so I tried my best. I definitely know there's room for improvement though but it's a start. There are a few widgets that helped me tremendously in making secondary menus appear on only certain pages; these widgets helped me link subposts to related subposts and from category page to other category pages.

Going to be trying that with a new site and test it.

My brain chose to ignore the part about no categories. But you're right that is definitely unorganized.

Talking about silo, Does silo works for product pages? In my home page I have all my products with no follow and in my navigation menu when you put the mouse it shows you the three categories where I have all my products. Is this structure considered as silo?

I have been reading lots about siloing and different ways to structure your site recently, as I want to structure an upcoming site better than I have done in the past. It's a lot easier to start off right, than changing it later.

When you silo your site I would be really interested if your ranking gets better. I did it with one site. The content was unorganized like sh** (but still good innerlinking). I invested some time, thought and money to restructure everything - and it had no effect on rankings whatsoever.

The structure is just part of it. It won't matter if the silo is well done if the content is not above average or top notch.

Silo structure is important to flow your link juice across your site. However, do not just take action and start changing things without first researching about SILO.

Silo site is created using a WordPress silo plugin in combination with a supplied silo theme
