And, what should he do?

@OP, this is no joke, I would take it down.
Fox is known to take this stuff very seriously. I would follow the points 1-3 and ignore 4-6. Aka, take everything related down and continue with your life.

If he is and he received this email, then it is probably very legit.

Is your "friend" in the United States?

If yes, then take that shit down immediately.

Even if not in the United States, your "friend" better be in some far off country outside the purview of US law enforcement.

I googled the name of the lawyer and it seems other people have received similar types of emails, which is probably very normal considering they usually look out for those sorts of things.

Make sure you sot some vague claim to fair use and ignore.

If they send you an actual letter, then take it down... letters mens the mean business.

They cannot do anything. Wait until they register their trademark in your country, until then they have no legal means of harassing you.

Once their trademark is listed in your federal trademark register, you may want to be careful, but then you used it before it was registered which makes the case more complicaed again...

They are just blowing smoke.

Search if the email is legit and if so, take down the site. And dont care to write to them or transfer domain. They will take it away themselves if they do care

OK, if it is one of those fake hack sites that use exact match trademark domain... burn it. You are being aplague upon the internet either way.

I think think they are either trying to scare you or this is a competitor. Sender emails can be faked.

I get these emails every month...
...but then I am in a european country and they have no power here.

My Advice:
Are you causing them financial harm?
- Yes: burn the site ASAP
- No: dont worry

Big companies are entirely predictable... they wont spend money on a lawsuit if there is no financial losses for them in not doing so. And especially if it is international... unless you are costing them millions, they wont go for an international process.

Scaring people with legal letters is highly effective... its how I get rid or 90% of all paypal fraud on my sites. Send people a legal letter and they will be very docile and cooperative.

The big companies are setting up automated systems to send out DMCAs to hosts, webmasters and even domain registrars and CDNs.

Mot likely its not even a human being that sent the mail.

Its all huff and puff...
...they do that all the time.

And there is simply no way they are going to sue someone in Romania, if the site is not acutally costing them money^^

I mean there are literally tens of thousands of fake hack sites... they got better stuff to do.

But as already mentioned, if you mention their brand in your domain aka simpsonstappedouthackandcheats or similar, then they will get the domain sooner or later.
