Online Reputation Management

Hello, I am looking into starting an online repuation management company.

1) I have a basic understanding of it but I would like to read up more on it so that I can do a really good job and make more money . I have collected a few resources to read on but I would like some of BHW's input on some really goods sources to learn about ORM. Would "Online Reputation Management For Dummies" help?

2) When I am trying to get a client I need to know what I am going to tell the client about the services I will provide. I know what I can do to help them but the problem is I don't know if it would be something they need ongoing so I can charge them monthly. What services can I provide that would make them need me for ongoing reputation management?

3) When I do get a client should I have them sign a contract for what they will pay and for how long? And how do I write this up? I have never done anything like that before.

2. You should provide the services that you understand you can provide. Learn #1.

3. An SOW (Statement Of Work) should be sufficient. Look it up on Google how to draw one up. They have many templates.

I have seen a lot of threads lately where OP wants to sell service and make money but don't have a clue about the service they'd like to sell. ORM is not about creating tons of accounts on social networks and rank them on the front page of Google.

First of all, you need to be skilled in whatever service and have a lot of experience before trying to monetize them by offering it to others for a large chunk.

There's no shortcut to become rich, especially in this field. Trying to do so will either land you in shitlist or you might end up doing ORM for yourself to clean up all the garbage you've generated by providing poor service. You need to take baby steps and learn the process while trying to walk.

Hit BHopkins as he's the only person on this forum who knows a lot about ORM than any of us.

Sorry for not responding sooner, I didn't see your thread!

Regarding accomplishing the work, I would suggest starting with a few test clients. These don't have to be real clients, but find a few names, push some sites up. What works? What didn't work? Were you able to actually move results up and down? If you can't move results, you can't sell this service (well you can, but you're clients are going to be very unhappy).

I don't have any monthly fees for my reputation management work so I can't help you with monthly fees or how much to charge.

What are you hoping to accomplish with the contract? I use a contract about 10% of the time. Most of the time I send an email and an invoice and the client pays. I am clear with what I will do and they understand what to expect from me. I don't spend a lot of time preparing reports, I spend my time getting results. That's not standard so I make sure they know I won't be sending them emails daily or weekly with a recap of what is done. The recap can be seen in the rack tracker (which I provide) and in the results.
