It is the first time for me i see that, I have never hear somewhere people telling it can incrase your serp and i completly don't see how it could ; you save disk space that's all i see...

Are you sure you didn't changed something else that you don't remember (robots.txt,ect) As someone said above maybe you had conflicts between some plugins

Site Loading Speed is same before and after deleting unused themes and plugins; I see no different.

Yet, removing unused themes and plugins is a good practice that was recommended oftenly.

thanks, i deleted over 80 unused and 1.5 ~ 2 sec -> less than 1sec.

Only the active current theme gets loaded in the memory not the themes which are inactive. So, I doubt removing unused themes will ever improve the performance of the site. It's the same with inactive plugins. Although the inactive themes & plugins unnecessarily occupies the disk space.

Exactly what I was thinking. I don't see how removing unused themes/plugins could affect your load speed or rankings. Maybe I'll have to try it anyway.

I have no clue on effect in rankings, the domain that deleting all the unused items made the difference in speed for me was used for mailing, with pages redirecting to affil links. There was only a site in case someone manually typed the domain in, instead of the links provided. It had many themes and different (possibly conflicting) plugins from different projects. I do know that 4 seconds load time is unacceptable for most here in the US, 3 seconds is enough for people to get irate. Back then I was also using cracked/nulled themes from here, and some themes just don't agree with some plugins.

We'll see what happens. I'm testing this on a site right now with ranks that are "stuck".

I just deleted the old themes / plugins. Now we wait.

Agree. As per my knowledge, only the plugins matter. Although, I have never kept more than 2-3 themes together.

Not sure if the following has any effect, but when you delete themes/plugins, make sure to clear out the MySQL DB. Ironically, there's a few plugins that help you with this (i.e. WP-Optimize).

well even if you don't delete anything you have to remember they are still being pinged and communicated upon.
Thats why you log in and find this and that must be updated...especially an old plug in sitting there suddenly becomes a back-door security risk.
Even after deleting themes and plug ins..especially plug in..they leave the database polluted and never in the same condition..even with database clean up plug ins etc.
My advice,keep a clean house > do all your testing of themes plug ins on a redundant domain host,which you never gonna use anyway.
Register something like hfuwghowrugug(.)info to do all your testing...that way you can drop the database and start fresh all the time for testing.
Then move it onto a serious set up once you are satisfied all is the way you like it from all angles.

I typically keep a default theme (TwentyFourteen) in the dashboard in case something goes pear-shaped, but I agree with you...Askimet/Hello Dolly plugins are always the first to go.

i never personally use the auto installer preferring to upload my wp set up,via ftp..so i dwonload a fresh copy of wp always..delete akismet/dolly,delete themes read me etc,drop my .htacces in
Then pack it all with my plug ins and themes ..start upload, go make a coffee.
Keep in mind guys if a plug in or theme needs a little testing it gets tested on my testing domian/site..never on my live site..once satisfied then bring it into the live site.
