A year ago I registered a domain for the first time, through Hostgator. I also got 3 years of hosting.

So anyway, my domain is expiring in a month or so. I've been sitting for the past 30 minutes trying to figure out how to renew it.

So, first of all there was an auto-renew option turned on, and I turned it off, I prefer doing things manually when I decide.

Anyway, do I really have to fucking email them in order to manually renew my domain name? Seriously?

That's the conclusion I came to, and that would suck. Is that so?

You better contact support then.

Just a quick advice, you should go with namecheap next time u decide to purchase a domain. Domains panel is so damn easy to use, you wouldn't have these kind of problems

Yeah, it seems hostgator isn't the best place for domains...

Thanks dude

Seems like you have to file a ticket. That's stupid enough alright.

Yeah, that's fucking retarded. I'd think that in this day and age a simple domain renewal could be done without having to contact the registrar...

And I also have to include the "Length of time for which domain is to be renewed."

Well, so I first gotta ask them how much is it going to cost, and also if I can get some sort of a discount or something if I renew it for 2 years for example.

They really should make it so that one can do this without having to contact them, it's almost 2015 for fucks sake!

Well, I got a response to my ticket.

It's $15 per year, and there's no discount for renewing for 2 or more years.

Now, $15 is not a lot, but can it be gotten cheaper? It's a .com domain.

The reason I ask is because I've seen domain registrations offered for as low as $2.99 and stuff, so I thought I'd ask you guys? I'm not experienced with domain stuff.

Thanks.

Namecheap is 10.69$ a year, plus free Whois protection for the first year. Also, as mentioned before, their domain management interface is superb compared to 99% of the other providers.

Other options that I use are Internet.bs and Namesilo.

Would transferring the domain from hostgator to namechap now cause any problems? And, how difficult would doing that be?

Also, how effective is private Whois now that I've already been without it for a year?

Domain transfers are not difficult, though I have no first hand experience with Registry Rocket.

Here is Namecheap's guide to transferring domains: https://www.namecheap.com/support/k...9175/8/general-domain-transfer-steps-and-tips

Try logging in here https://www.registryrocket.com/default.aspx?ec=5103184a-8c21-4efa-aca0-0

All Hostgator domains are registered and managed via RegistryRocket

And this is where you should go and figure out how to set registrar locks off etc.

Thanks for the link Hardcorebiker
