For example... Make a basic blog with an article on there... try* to rank it.. THEN if it ranks, get it re-designed!
Why spend thousands on a design only to never see it rank? Rank first, then re-design ensuring the same content is still displayed on the page!

There are excellent quality blog themes for under $50, one doesn't need to spend thousands to start off with high quality, and one doesn't need to re-design if they picked a good theme when they started.
Can't see it kidder.

I agree with that. My most profitable pages looked like hell until I revised them after they started showing potential. It wasn't until then they started really banking.

Yea, which leads to over-analysis paralysis, the #1 reason for FAILURE in the IM space.
You try to "analyze" one of my campaigns you won't see shit... you'd be dumbfounded.

All marketers should be forced to stare at art from Rude Goldberg.
He was that guy who designed outrageously complicated machines to do stupid simple tasks. And now in days his art is more relevant than it's ever been. They are "symbols of man's capacity for exerting maximum effort to accomplish minimal results".
And I think his art applies to marketing more than any other artist I can think of.
Marketers are always trying to think of these elaborate, sophisticated systems, always trying to make things harder than they really are. And as long as they believe things need to be complex and difficult, their work will always be a direct reflection of those beliefs.

Whilst I do agree with your "work hard" statement, I also strongly believe that a lot of people are morons. If they don't have a clear set of instructions, they won't know their left from their right. They will never make it in the IM world, and quitting their job will just lead to them having to find another job after they have realised they suck at not being told what to do.
I'd say rather use your spare time (evenings, weekends) to pursue an online project. If it works for you, scale it up and quit your job when you're confident you can survive without permanent employment.
