Does anyone have a method for generating great blog topics for clients?

FAQ's of their most popular products.
Suggested questions in google for product keywords.
Pros / Cons articles on various products in the same category.
Best of "niche news" articles.

niche "guest post"

niche "submit content"

etc

obviously replace niche with your keywords, this way you can see what others already did and 'get inspired' a little bit

btw. Brian Dean did a great tutorial for guest posting, the search terms from above are ones I learned from him, search on Google for his blog and guest posting guide and you'll definitely learn a lot of stuff that may be useful for your job

Go to google, slap the keyword, click the 12th result, read, copy the first sentence of the second paragraph and paste that into google and they click the 12th result. Repeat until you get an idea.

Check what's the latest trends on your niche and create articles about it. You can check the trends through Google trends, and also check what's hash tags in your niche trending on twitter. So, when you tweet it, you can use trending hashtags in your topic.

Put some twists on your topic such as including controversial topics in it, or perhaps comparison of products in your niche that you're promoting on your site.

You could also go to Yahoo answers and check what's hot in your niche/topic and write an article about it, then share it there.

No-one has mentioned Wikipedia...

I use it loads for digging out a bunch of connected information on any topic.

When I work with a new client in a new sector, I always spend a while clicking around their topics on Wikipedia - it's amazing how knowledgable you can seem after just an hour on Wikipedia!

Go to competitors, you'll get a lot of ideas what you've missed!

If your niche is something that is written about in in a lot of books (pet niche, home improvement, etc.), go to the library. The author of a book has often worked for years on it, and it will tend to go much more in-depth into the topic than what you find in articles on websites. It can give you lots of ideas of more focused/specialized approaches to your niche.
