GA and Organic Keywords

A friend of mine has an access to GA account of a multi-$$$ publisher (he works there).
I proposed him to create a simple blog and write a bunch of articles by using organic keywords from that account.
He doesn't want to, explaining that the website is too popular and it's worthless to compete with them. Does his words make any sense? How to convince him?

So if I write an article, use the exact organic keyword by all of the SEO rules, the post won't get to TOP 10?
