What's up BHW! I am a young guy who has lurked around here forever. Like most of you (I would assume) I'm living the dream. I want a residual income (not 100% residual, but not 9-5 slaving away) from the internet. There is all kinds of untapped markets and money to be made.. why not me? Why not us? A dollar and dream. Well.. I have more than a dollar to start with. Not too much more lol. But anyways.. this is my silly introduction. On a serious note, I believe I have a pretty good vehicle to begin my internet venture. I will outline my method below, and encourage people to comment, offer advice, twist it to their liking etc. I won't be giving too much detail about my actual project, since I mean, intellectual property is key to success! But I hope you readers will enjoy what I post and can have some conversations about it on this thread and if you have any inquiries feel free to PM me! Trust me. I have my laptop alllll the time.

-METHOD-
So. What is this method? Well.. I'm sure there is a fair share of users out there who read the threads about micro niche sites and authority sites and have no clue in hell how to actual make one, drive traffic, rank on google etc. Well neither do I. But one thing all of us know is that traffic = money. Monetization on a website can really bring home the bacon. Maybe even some full on pig farms. Seeing that my name is ObjectiveC, I code apps. I'm not a professional developer by any stretch of the term. If you need someone to code you an app, I am sorry but I cannot help. I just am not that good. But I am good enough that when I focus I can come up with a pretty good project (within my capabilities). Some of my apps have over 1,000 downloads.. nothing spectacular so far. But I have been developing one that I think has the potential to do really well.
So as I have been coding this app, I really started to think.What if What if it got x amount of downloads and x amount of people bought the in app purchase or x amount of people viewed an ad etc. etc. But then I thought more. What if this app really does get people downloading it? What if I can convert that traffic to my website/blog? Basically I would be double monetizing on the traffic I already have. Most of these users would be highly targeted (I would not be making them accidentally click or anything.. strictly people going off of their curiosity) and then not only would I get paid off of their in app activities, but also from ads on my site and maybe their subscription to the mailing list and long term traffic.
I genuinely thought I was brilliant. Maybe you guys don't. I mean.. there are a lot of what ifs to pose. What if the app gets no traffic? What if the app does get traffic but it doesn't convert to website traffic? What if the people don't come back to the website? Well... I guess I just have to keep trying and innovating until they do right?
The main problem here is creating an app that people will want to see and then also having a related website behind it that people will want to go to. This would be great for you guys out there with niches of viral videos or something.. create an app for displaying your videos link back to your website for similar content etc.

So the journey begins right now. I would love to hear the thoughts of anyone who read this.. and also anyone who can point me in the right direction when it comes to hosting/domains. I currently have a GoDaddy domain and website builder (it sucks) but I am interested in buying hosting and installing a wordpress plugin and getting started on my website before I finish up this app. Happy journeying! Don't go with GoDaddy, they are mercenaries..

Go with Namecheap for domains, and yes, a wordpress site is really a good option. Pretty easy to maintain, and you can transform it into everything.

I suggest you use wordpress and install it with some cool themes. For startup you can use servinio hosting. The owner of that hosting is a BHW member too and has a cheap rates of $1.91 per month which is perfect for startup. After you got enough money and good amount of visitors daily go upgrade your hosting to VPS

Thanks for the advice guys. And yeah.. you don't really realize how much GoDaddy sucks when you're on the outside looking in. I mean they're advertised everywhere when you think websites its one of the first that pops in your mind. But it's so frustrating. I'll look into those sites

Well just wanted to give a small update on what I'm doing today towards this project. Before I dive into any hosting and such, I'm sticking with what I know. I'm researching the website, but I am putting finishing touches on my current app, creating logos for this new website, and beginning to outline the actual content I will need to write. I have set up my twitter/yt/emails etc for planning everything out. Should be ready to begin this whole fiasco by the end of the week!

​Well the logo I decided to make yesterday I finished. Whenever I make my logos (made a few for apps etc.) I really spend time googling different words that I want people to resonate with when they see the logo. For example if you have a logo you want to make that is for a candy company.. google sweet, tasty, candy etc. Then try to come up with a cool design of those images incorporated into your logo. It has really been a struggle for me in this digital age to want to back away from my all-powerful laptop, but it really helps to try to design things on paper first. Then once you have an idea.. vector it up and bam! I have a pretty unique and cool logo for my new company.

I also just pulled the plug on some hosting and installing wordpress on my site. Just did it about 10 minutes ago. My sibling has a site hosted by BlueHost with Wordpress so I decided I would go a route where I could have the most familiarity with easiest advice as I could receive help in real life. It was a tad bit more expensive than other options (like 10-20 bucks a year smh) but I have never done this before and went where I would feel most comfortable!

I also plan on finishing and submitting my app to the app store tonight.. hopefully to get version 1 out there and try to get some downloads from friends and stuff. I won't start any social media campaigns until November though. Version 2 will be pushed right after version 1 is accepted. It will have a rate button and a new social sharing button with the app link plus fix any bugs that might be present. I also am going to put it on the Google Play store.

The main thing I am waiting on before my campaign of this app is establishing myself on the Apple App Store. I don't know if all of you know, but Apple is a pain in the butt when it comes to selling your apps as a company. Registering with Duns and all of that mess. So once I can change my individual account to a company account and my app is fully ready to be in the hands of the masses I plan on doing some pretty good advertising. Until then, work on my website.

Well anyone that deals with Apple knows that to sell on the app store without selling your app as "Firstname Lastname" you have to have a company and apply for a DUNS number and all that bs. So I created an LLC in strive for a business account to sell as "business name"

As far as my website goes, I am reading a lot on wordpress tutorials. It is all confusing to me.. but I have a general idea of how I would like to present my website. I can't decide on a theme yet but I am doing a lot of work and studying on that aspect. I am also brainstorming different marketing techniques for my apps.. not a lot of people following my journey yet but I promise it will be big. lol.
