I just conducted a split test and got the exact opposite results as expected. My goal was to compare the cost of having a custom audience (scraped) and compare it to an identical audience through Facebook's standard targeting (FBX). I expected it to be cheaper since Fb would think that they were truly my audience.

FBX cost per conversion: $1.51
WCA cost per conversion: $4.41

FBX reach: 20k
WCA reach: 8k

Any idea on why the hell this is happening? The ads are identical (zero variations), the only thing I didn't do that might have affected it was exclude my WCA list from the 2nd set of ads so maybe they were directly competing against each other? I thought WCA was supposed to be cheaper. What am I missing?

I tried attaching pictures from imgur of the report but it isn't letting me.

wow.. its a surprise. even i thought scraping own list and targeting them is best way. Let me pause my camps for few hours and see replies from other members too.

its your custom audience that you scraped.... and also check to see who is liking and or clicking on your ads.

But I do believe its your custom audience which is not converting.

yes even i do suspect the same.

May be if you have scraped members from some fan page, and if they had only 20% Real Active likers and 80% bought (Fake) likers then offcourse its gonna hit.

I would agree but I'm targeting the same page that I scraped them from. Why would the scraped users be 3x more expensive through a custom audience?

The ads, the timing, the setup, landing page, etc. where identical. The only difference was one was based off of an uploaded CSV (Scraped users who liked 'page X') and the other campaign was people with an interest in 'page X'. The results should be cheaper with WCA or at minimum, the same.
