neg seo helped blackhat marketer.. buy few hq premium links let google see them as white, then blast load of shit over those high pr site and to money site.. became an authority site. I found that seo has never been so easy.

Its not exactly a guaranteed ranking method but anyone saying that X type or quantity of links will get you sandboxed is wrong as you have seen.

Mixing link types and quality is a great way to reduce the chance of rankings drops these days. Also keep your anchors and posting content varied and you should be good.

agreed with u, diversity will make google confused.. unlike 2-3 years b, panda is unbeatable but now panda seem doesn't exist at all if u know how to merge white and black..
