Travelling to Germany!

Hi guys, I will be visiting Germany next month. Any tips/knowledge about Germany, their culture, traditions and the people; beer too .

Hoping some bhw members from Germany or at least traveled to Germany.

Hope, i typed right! Its my first time to Germany- Munich. Do Germans speak proper english and like people who speak in english with them?

The people I spoke too are really nice, and yes they talk good english.

German's aren't rude if you're not rude to them. Here in the UK people won't be rude if you don't say 'please' for example, but some will try to kill you. So depends much on the person as well

I stayed in Munich for a few weeks some years ago, it is a beautiful city! Places you should totally visit are the BMW factory (quite amazing really), then get a beer here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hofbräuhaus_am_Platzl Nothing really beats the atmosphere of that place! Traditional huge mega awesome 'beer hall'. Dachau (a smaller town nearby) is known for the concentration camp, it was a quite gruesome experience to visit, but definitely worth the while.

I will also visit Germany by the end of the month, exactly Berlin - Potsdam. I know Germans are cold and usually they don't speak English or they won't speak.
Also there are also growing numbers of neonazi especially in Essen, they hate foreigners and will probably attack you if you look like one.
But Berlin is an other story, its not a typical German city, there are lot of foreigners and its a typical world metropolis.

Yes, i am going to lay my hands on the best beer available.

BTW, How is the weather like? I check the weather daily, its either cloudy,raining,sunny... all in one day.

That sounds scary. I am going to Munich, why do you say germans are cold? Did have such an experience there?

Need to speak at least little of German. I must say, it pleases the people, if you speak basic words in German.

I was sending some emails to a female employee in a Corporate house in Germany for more than a month now. The day i greeted her in german in a email, she started to more casual in her business, greeting me back and putting smiles in a business email.

IMO you never get to see smiles in a business email.

I am german and I can tell you that you won't get attacked if you look like a foreigener. Especially in Munich, which is one of the richest cities in Germany.

I am german and I can tell you that you won't get attacked if you look like a foreigener. Especially in Munich, which is one of the richest cities in Germany.

Sorry I meant to say Leipzig not Essen, I have friend in lot of places in Germany. I don't know about Munich but I know that Berlin Is very nice and cool place.

@ OP:

The nicest cities are

1. Berlin
2. Hamburg
3. Munich
4. Cologne
5. Dresden

Generally you want to avoid the East and stay in one of the cities above. For beer I recommend a Weizen like "Paulaner". I heard from some tourists that German girls are the most beautiful girls and IM sorry to tell you, but thats a big lie. Also they are in the beginning colder than lets say US girls, but actually are pretty nice when you get to know them . For partying I recommend Electro or House parties. Hip Hop parties usually suck here.
