Authority site: Pages vs Post (suggestions and ideas)

First, i would like to thank everyone that has dropped valuable information on this forum in one way or the other....(including you).
Straight to the point of this thread, i started my silent journey with two authority sites some few weeks ago though site 1 has been around for a couple of months(i ignored the project after a long while.)

My questions on this two sites are;
1) In your own opinion, would you prefer to have pages of content on your site instead of post on different categories, if yes what would be the structure of setting up your site.
2)I have an article that ranks for the homepage of my site instead of the article url, is this as a result of the fact that i have it as a post instead of a page on the site?
3)I manually created a set of 10 unique web 2.0 properties for each of my site(using The SEO guide post), they all have unique bought content. what would be the perfect number of links per article pointing to my moneysite?
4)is it a safe practice pointing purchased social signals directly to my moneysite?

On site 1, its more of a combined niche something (fashion+ workout + relationship). the structure of the site is such that i have excerpts of my post on the homepage while the postings go to the various categories mentioned above. This is where i really need the help of BHW members, would you guys rather have a long post on the homepage targeting the various categories of the website or would you rather leave it as it is? what would be your seo plan if the later was the case?

On site 2, the homepage has the main long article that links to the other posts on the website, but i cant really tell how effective this method has been so far as most of the post haven't been indexed in google yet(just been three days since i published them).

Lol no sarcasm here dude. Ok so I'll answer as best I can.

1: Pages for fixed content, like "Services" or "Contact", Posts for articles.
2: Your homepage probably has more backlinks pointing to it, and thus has more authority by default, than a new article.
3: I can't answer this. I've ranked articles with no backlinks whatsoever. It depends on your keywords.
4: I'd say yes, as long as you don't overdo it. I've actually had better results with social signals than backlinks in a few cases.

I use pages for fixed content too..The usual pages in my sites are "contact" , "Privacy Policy" , "About Me/Us".

From WEB 2.0 , I usually do 2 links from one article. I am not saying its the perfect, but thats how I do

I have never bought social signals so far , for any of my sites yet. But I think its OK to do it, as Treeofl1 said..just don't over do it!

I'd make the categories into pages.. that way you've got both

What do you mean? When someone googles your site name this article appears instead of your home page??

from each web2.0 you'd want about 1 or 2 max.. In each article, just one will be fine - but only link from 1 article.. you need other links going to related pages too.. can't just link to your site!

NO!

for a blog, fresh posts on the home page would work well.. depends what pages you want to drive traffic too..

Thanks for head-up, but i would like to know.. in scenario (1) if i make the categories into pages and each time i post articles to the page, wont it increase the overall keyword density for the page considering the fact that many articles will be posted overtime targeting the same group of keywords.?

I noticed you are into SEO too, please could you recommend best practices for a new site in terms of SEO. Thanks. and i wish i had such budget for the SEO service advertised on your signature... ...

No, keyword density is worked out as a percentage.. if you have 5 links in a 500 word article it's 1% density... if you have 50 links in 5000 words it's still 1%..

Haha, there are lots of best practices, other members have written huge threads on this topic - there's one in the sticky section here, by LukaB if I'm not mistaken..

what you are saying in essence is that, i should have a page instead of the categories.. then on that page i would have a main article with links to other articles in the same category?

If yes, then it means i would have to edit the article on the page each time i want to link to a fresh post...

There is definitely a learning curve to this...
