Your experience with "business partners"?

No matter if it's a friend or whatever.. for some reason.. when I partner up with somebody and if it's my idea I am always ending up doing 80-90% of the work.. while my "business partner".. is online in skype for one hour with me.. and working one hour a day.. I am creating all the products.. doing all the different VSL's, Webinar outlines and angles for our product.. and he just adds something here and there and can't even create some ads.. and he doesn't seem to think that it's unfair at all... And in all my experience with "business partners".. it doesn't seem to matter what it is.. I never find the balance there and there is always some laziness on the other part or I don't even know what it is... It's just very disappointing and I this pattern is following me throughout my life and I end up thinking there is something wrong with me and that I should never get a business partner and always do everything myself... Anybody experienced the same or can somebody relate and give me some advice on how objective my issue is?

Simply get a good full time virtual assistant instead of a business partner and you will save a lot of time and nerves.

A real business partner would have something that will greatly benefit the business and something you can't do. For example, if you can create a product, then you need a partner who can advertise it.

I have a partner and he is a real life friend and we also have this problem. Because we actually have the same goal we are working on and our solution is kind of to work on separate income streams helping each other with what is needed. He is better at making webinars and talking with people while I'm better with automating, by programming bots and other technical stuff. What we can't do we simply outsource.

Why did you take on a business partner in the first place?
Did they invest any capital into the project?
If people don't pull their weight, or fulfil their part of the agreement, then you should look at dissolving the partnership.

i develop apps and i have people wanting to "partner" with me all the time.

its usually like "let's go 50/50 on this great idea i have", or "i've got this simple app idea, it should be easy for a good coder".

its basically a scam that people pull. very rarely do they have anything valuable to add to the project besides just flapping their gums and making stupid suggestions. you do all the work, they bullshit the whole time and take half the money. that's been my experience. i wouldn't partner, either get paid for your work or do it yourself and keep all the profit.

If someone isn't contributing the way you wish, simply drop them man what the hell are you waiting for? This life is too short to have people like that bring you down man, and as someone else suggested, get a virtual assistant. Perhaps from India or the Philippines, people from there need the cash so bad that they are almost forced to give it their all. And if they don't find a new one.

Business is business. Do you want to succeed or nah? The choice is almost ALWAYS YOURS.

If it's a real life friend, meet up with him or her in person and discuss the scenario. If they aren't with you 100%, why would you give them 100%?

I've been doing IM full-time for over 4 years now I am almost always more skilled and more out-of-the-box-smart then the other person but I always wish to partner up with some friends or really cool people because it's much more fun socially..
but it's been always VERY dissapointing so far..

I don't think the problem is partnering with people - the issue is your choice of who you partner with (and why)

I can understand your desire to work with friends as it feels like it will be a better experience - but that's rarely the case, as you have found out... multiple times.

Finding the right people to go into business with is the most important decision you can make and everything else hinges on that choice.

Forget friends and family next time - find the right people for the project and do your due diligence on them.

You will find that once you have assembled the right team, not only will the project be more successful, but the fun aspect that you hoped would come from working with friends will happen too, because people who are working on exciting and successful projects do have fun.

I guess you could relate it to Google's employees. Google doesn't have a bunch of fam and old time friends working together. They seek innovative, creative, like-minded individuals from across the world and MAKE them part of the business. Then they BECOME friends and family.

Chances are any of your close colleagues will never have the same ambition and ideologies and as open of a mind as you, man.

Keep your circle tight, and keep trying. Finding the most suitable business partner isn't going to happen overnight. But if it does, haha congratulations dude.

People are motivated by different things. It is the pleasure/pain principle. For lazy people, it brings them more pain than pleasure to work hard and make money. For others, like me, it is more painful being a broke ass than slacking off; so I work my tail off, because I happen to love money. Money motivates me a lot personally.

When you choose a partner who shares your motivation, whatever it may be, you will see much better results! I have owned several businesses and I own 100% of the stock in my companies. I'd love to have an equal partner, but most people fail to operate at a high capacity, so I just have employees. They never work as hard as me.

The bottom line, you need to vet people well to ensure they have a lot to bring to the table and a lot of motivation. If you are a coder, you may need a visionary marketing expert. Or you may need someone with deep pockets and some talent you do not have.

Lastly, get the partnership in writing. Spell out responsibilities and accountabilites, so there won't be any surprises later.

I totally agree with Wiz here. You can't just tar everyone with the same brush like that - it's very unfair to do so and inaccurate too.

Partnering with someone needs careful consideration before you get too involved. You'll probably never find someone who is a perfect match but as long as both parties pull their weight then all is good.

If you have someone who can make stuff and someone who can sell it then that's a good combination but one person may need to spend more time fulfilling their end of the deal simply because their task is more time consuming. They may also work at a faster pace than you.

The balance is when both parties make the partnership work and it makes money. But as some have said, sometimes it may be best to pay someone a fee to carry out a task that you're considering a biz partner for.

Always ended up stealing my method and just leave. So it is better to work alone than to have a business partner or just outsource your work to people who knows nothing about IM.
