I'm going inside a new niche where there are a lot of old domains, and just wanted to ask some advice.

So basically the situation is that most top 10 results have really old domains, the PR is different from site to site but not over 5 its like mostly 2 and 3. 9 out of 10 results don't have the main domain on the top 10 results. its a subcategory. The KW isn't in a ot of titles and urls.

Do you think it is easy to out-rank them.

Oh, and a lot of sites, are the really huge ones. like nytimes, wikipeadia, ehow etc.

You can buy an aged domain to get around the age issue. Also, if you build an authority site you should be able to get on the first page for your keywords, since as you said "9 out of 10 results don't have the main domain on the top 10 results." Your root domain would have a good shot at outranking their subcategories with some high quality content and good links.

First of all, ranking a site is not the simple task until you put your smart work in it.. Hope, you know that well.. But age matters more in ranking time.. It takes much time to rank in SERP, if it is not an old domain.. You wanna do same ON page optimization, KW opti, and smart backlinks with good diversity(both D* & N* follow links) for both aged and new domains.. And ranking is based on how smart you're doing these.. Buying a aged domain is the best way..

Domain age just gives you a boost to your authority, it will not rank your site.

Creating good quality content doesn't take as much time as aging a domain.

That would be difficult to say without doing a proper analysis. Check their metrics (you can use keywordrevealer for this if you need a free tool), if the top10 is dominated by a lot of pages with high DA but very low page-metrics (PA, backlinks & social signals) they should be easy to outrank.

Aged domains help for sure but to be honest, i wouldn't care about Wikipedia, Youtube or Ny times links. There's a great tutorial over here that teaches you how to buy expired aged domains for the standard price. You should take a look. good luck !

You can pass aged domains, you can pass high page rank domain. the point it, dose these pages are strong enough ? check their backlinks profile at OSE at moz.
