How To Repair Credit?

Hey guys, I've got bad credit from a bunch of collections. No loans or evictions however. But my scores really bad between 400-500. Anyone in the U.S. from experience know how to repair credit as fast as possible?

Wow, that's really low.

Pay your debts. It will take a long time to repair. Get a low balance credit card. Charge/pay off. Call people and make an agreement to pay off your bad debt and then pay it off.

After a long long while, credit card companies will gamble on you so you have a chance to charge and pay stuff off.

Do it now rather than later when you want to buy a house.

Credit scores usually take into account the following items:
Payments (on time, within 30 days)
Missed Payments (#after 30d, #after 60d, #after 90d)
Account Longevity (how long has the account been open)
Debt Ratio (what's the balance on your account versus it's maximum amount, usually anything over 25%)
Payment Amount (if you rack it up and pay it off immediately)

Also, if you can get a copy of your credit report then you should make sure that there are no outstanding or erroneous claims on there. If there's one still hurting you that shouldn't be on there any longer, call up the company and see what's going on. Until those are gone, it will drag down your score.

Thanks guys. I've heard that collections after they've hit your account will be stuck there for a certain amount of time until they fall off. The negative points will still remain, and paying that debt won't impact the score.

I'm working on getting my finances in order finally with CPA Marketing. Although I will be able to afford everything eventually, having bad credit is still one of those things you want to get taken care of. It follows you until you fix it. Especially for my wanting higher quality things.

Eh, not really. If you ever get a mortgage, it'll be easier but getting the mortgage with bad credit will be hard.


Being an IMer (god I hate that term) or a freelancer will make it hard to get a loan anywhere. No one wants to see "freelancer" in your loan application. Freelancer translates to bum in credit terms.

yeah, dont pay your debts
dont admit they are yours
act dumb and make them prove they are your debts, they have to have the paperwork proving that a debt is yours

it's the opposite of what everyone else will tell you, but it's the best way to get all of the negative stuff off of your credit report.

I'm not saying dont pay current debts but anything in collections dont admit to and make them prove it. just like there is BHW for SEO there are credit repair boards with invaluable information. find em, read and get er done

You should
1. goto annualcreditreport.com which the federal government mandated and request your credit reports.
2. Goto each bureaus website and dispute the various bad debts; Do not accept guilt or they will stick. Act dumb and claim ignorance as Pilfer as stated.
3. When each bureau sends you their stall letters telling you to prove that you are really you, respond to their requests with whatever form of identification they ask for.
4. If they call and ask you to settle and say that they will remove it from your credit report, get that in writing prior to paying off along with the persons signature. This can be used as proof for the credit bureau later on down the road when the item isn't removed by the collection agency.

This will usually result in quite a few of the items getting removed. If it doesn't then you have to wait the mandated waiting period which is usually 7-10 years depending on if it is a judgement, settlement or bankruptcy.

I worked in the IT department for a credit repair agency years ago.

Good advice if you have forever to do it that way. I got rid of all of my negatives, even a bankruptcy in 30 days.
