I notice that a lot of SEO people here on BHW, and even SEO sellers here on BHW use gmail as their main means of communications. Am I crazy or is this a horrible, horrible idea? If you're selling SEO and email every single order through gmail then you're essentially creating a footprint... am I wrong?

There are a TON of free online email clients that you can use that aren't owned by Google, Microsoft, or Yahoo. I urge you guys to start moving to these.

No you're not crazy, it's a horrible idea. But no matter how many times you warn people about it, they only learn when their money is burned and their efforts go down the drain.

I use general gmail account for a lot of my correspondence. I also have about a dozen other e-mails depending on the site it pertains to or the profile I use to go online.

That does not mean I do SEO signed into that profile.

I see guys selling services and sending reports through gmail all the time, this in my opinion could be extremely dangerous. Especially for those selling PBNs. Their entire network could be exposed by Google. If Google reads links in emails at all it creates a vivid footprint.

Most of the sellers do not care about exposing their PBNs as if they got hit, they can roll out new PBNs again and again, I bet they dont use it for their money sites too.

The infamous *****Rank network was using Gmail. 100% of the sites got busted with laser precision.

Google had two options there: run complex link network analysis on billions of sites just to find the *****Rank sites. Or they could read *****Rank's Gmail. What would YOU do if you were Google? Leave your robots wasting kilowatts of power overnight searching for something you already have neatly listed for you?

This is only an urban legend! There is the privacy and none spy your emails just to find some blackhat domains to risk jail! LOL

The ads served in Gmail are based on the content in your Inbox, this is data that will be kept and possibly reviewed.
If you are buying links/receive a report then who says that that data isn't machine processed.

Yep, this is an automate process. I really doubt that they risk to lost all the empire just to found some blackhatters

Yes, I agree they don't have people reading through emails, but the data can still be extracted and used.
Links could be automatically processed and run against the search index etc.

If this was ever proven it is a clear privacy violation and would land google in court pretty quick.
I hate google but I don't feel they would breach this type of trust with customers unless it was a law enforcement subpoena.

It is machine processed. The patterns and links are revealed and used in G's search algo, therefore they covered their ass, perfectly.

Some people use Google Docs to display big lists of PBN domains for their clients, name the file "PBN Domains" or "Private Blog Network" and then wonder why their PBNs get de-indexed. I'm not a conspiracy type of person, but why would you provide Google easy access to such information? Just use an alternative service. Hotmail & OneDrive are really sleek.

I only use Gmail for personal communication! But when it comes to SEO! I use custom email on my own domain!

I was selling adwors vouchers using gmail some time ago. xxx-xxxx vouchers per day send via gmail. Guess how many got banned?

If you guys are so paranoid then just compress the report in a password protected rar archive :/

Here's a nice blog post for anyone not wanting to use Google tools

Not that I use gmail for this, but lord would I love to have that happen to me and then be able to prove they violated privacy laws for such a trivial aspect.

If you think Google catches networks by Gmail you should reconsider how the world works. It's much easier for them to use a human to find PBN's than violate countless privacy laws in every country.
