I am planing on buying my first domain sometime soon. I use blogger with custom templates (it works for me). I bought a domain a long time ago through blogger so I thought it would be cost effective to do it again but blogger does not support registering domains anymore.

My question is if I just buy a domain name without hosting. Would I be able to change the DNS settings to fit with blogger without having to buy hosting? Never done that before so thats why I am asking.

I also got lots of content on the blogspot page so I dont want to have to restart.

Also is it possible to just buy a domain with godaddy instead of having to purchase the hosting as well.

Yes, you can point the domain to your Blogger with either a CNAME or an A record. Though GoDaddy sucks, go with Namecheap or Namesilo etc. A lot of good threads about this here.

Yes you can buy domain without buying hosting with godaddy or namecheap.

If you want a .com domain, godaddy offers different $0.99 for a .com and namecheap also offers $0.98 .com/.net/.org if you are a new customer..

Yeah and there are always coupon codes for godaddy for cheap domains. Getting whois privacy for it is another matter though if you want to go that route.

whatever you do don't go for cheap in short don't go for gogranny.

Is the domain for your main site (Like blog or money site), or are you building a private blog network or?

Cheers

This. I suggest you go for namecheap, it's cheaper in the long-run too.

Godaddy is pretty damn cheap these days with there discount codes etc.

NameSilo offers this as part of the buying process, they have a list of sites like weebly, soundcloud etc that you can easily point ur domain name to. And their prices is as good, if not better than Namecheap, and with privacy.

I'm just not positive blogger is one of the choices because I haven't looked but check it out

Thanks everyone I managed to buy my first domain :) and it works with namesilo and blogger. Free Hosting FTW!
