question about domain name

does anybody know if the registrars will increase the price of a domain name after the 1st year?
i see that some major .dance domain is priced at almost $2k. i am afraid if i get a .dance domain for $20 now for 1 year, will they increase the price dramatically the next year?

i am also assuming that this kind of domain should be good for ranking? since it's the closest to EMD and its a reason why they are priced higher?

Most registrars charge registration and renewal at different rates, however, it's usually something like $9 registration and $12 renewal, etc - for a .com, anyway.

I'm not sure about exotic extensions - but logic does tell me that a jump from $20 to $2000 seems unlikely at best, extortionate at worst.

Simply contacting the registrar with the question is your best bet, by far.

Google consider every domain equally. Whether they are .com or .dance, all are same when came to ranking. Domain industry is low margin high volume business. Com or net or org are most popular hence they can get profits with low prices as volume of registrations are high. Its not the case with these new tlds, they won't get many registrations, they paid millions to icann to get the extensions, so if they give domains at .com price they'll endup in losses.

.info is usually significantly cheaper than .com while its usage is far less than .com? also it seems that i rarely see .info on google 1st page?

Branding, when you say facebook or google. The first tld that comes to people's mind is .com

So they are more likely to type facebook(.)com and not the other tlds.

Buy for multiple years at once. Thats the only option you have.

Some domains, regardless of their extension may cost more due to their premium status, but renewals are usually affordable. Avoid the likes of godaddy for domain names.

i've spent the past 10 years explaining/spelling my stupid street address. apparently now i have to explain that my URL ends with .dance! even apple maps calls me up and tells me my site is down because they insist to add a .com to the end! didnt see this coming..

on top of that, some sites reject my email address as invalid! Gee, it doesnt feel so exotic anymore..
