Why Bing is not poular in US ?

Normal, usefull results

Google is usually:
- local results on most keyword, you can't get rid of it
- 50% or more websites penaltied for "innatural link"
- Ads over 70% of screen you see
- Yelp x 5 ?? Yelp, Yellopages, Wikipedia, Amazon, Ebay everywhere

How can Google even be called a search engine? It's ads search engine + sites hiding engine. Reults simply sucks. I switched to bing like month ago and since then I'm not going back to Google when I search for sth commercial.

Are people that blind, or they just don't know there are much better search engines like Bing and DuckDuckGo. What do you think ?

Its been incorporated into the English language now through TV shows, the media and online.

They no longer say "search the internet", they simply say "Google it"

Anyone new to the internet will see/hear this phrase and most likely assume that it's the only method of finding stuff online.

The common people do not understand what us Internet marketers understand about search engines, so they're more likely to believe that Google is the best search engine because their pot dealer son said so. Even if the quality of search results is lower than its competitors (Bing, Yahoo, etcetera), this doesn't matter in the end because Google has so much branding backing it up. On an additional note, because Google's subsidiaries are also brands themselves (such as YouTube, Picasa, and Android), this has made Google an even more popular among the general public since they can now use a variety of useful products and services "all in one place".

Now, because Google is the most popular search engine, this has also made it popular among advertisers and publishers due the large volume of monthly traffic it receives. This alone is the primary reason that it is popular with the members of BlackHatWorld. Other reasons include the, again, useful tools provide by Google to manage their site, increase their ranking in the SERPs, optimise their SEO, and the list goes on.

When all of these factors are coalesced, it creates a powerful entity which controls 80% of all web searches that has the potential to ruin lives and small businesses with just a simple deindexing, also known as an Internet monopoly. Because Google knows that its publishers, advertisers, and visitors are unlikely to go to a competitors website (After all, saying "just Bing it" doesn't sound nearly as good as "just Google it"), they know they can alter the SERPs to favour themselves, their subsidiaries, and their partners. This is why you not only see more ads than before, but you also see companies affiliated with Google almost always appearing at the top of the SERPs.

But don't fret about this too much, one day Google will be replaced by something else and it will only be a memory of a company that bombarded its users' screens with advertisements every chance it got. Remember, this all temporary. Search engines, SEO, Google, and even our businesses may be relevant today, but that doesn't mean they'll be relevant tomorrow.

Yes google shows ads all the way. Its turning into crap. I too switched to bing. But it should get rid off spam sites.

Google became so popular because of its simplicity.
Back in the 90's Google was the ONLY search engine that, once you visited the site, offered you a white, blank page with just a Google logo and a search box. The other competitors (MSN, Yahoo...) were search engines also, but they decided to make their sites look like "news portals", which in that time was too much. Why wait 10 seconds (back in the 56kbits days) until you're able to do a search, when you can simply type Google.com into your browser and the search engine pops right up?

Yahoo is do perform very well in U.S and lots of times beat Google in terms of United States traffic that's the fact that most people don't know. But when it goes world wide Yahoo is nowhere to be found near Google. In China Baidu is #1 not Google.

Their role is to supply informations, not censore it. Hunting down illegal activities is police work. Bing has awesome video search (it finds also ripped movies etc), finds cracks and all this stuff. I can't believe people didn't try it. They could find that Bing is better for it

I try to use Bing more often, although the font they use in the title makes it so much harder to read for some reason.

For me, it's not so much their font that makes me not want to use it, it's their lack of an integrated and dynamic reverse image search. I use Google to search images quite frequently, so being able to just go to Google images to drag and drop my image to search it is convenient. With Bing, you have to go to Bing images, then you have to click on image match, and then you click on "upload image", and finally you can search it. Those extra steps dissuade me from using Bing's reverse image search function, and Bing entirely.

I would say it's closer to 5 years than 10 years. Things move faster in the tech world, and Google is just a web 1.0 company that needs to force its users to use their social network. Like john1444 mentioned, Google is more popular in America than it is in other parts of the world (although it is still the world's most popular search engine).

I would personally like to see the search engine market split between many different companies and not just owned primarily by Google. How great would it be if you decided that you wanted to build a website that targets 21-34 year old females and discovered there was a search engine that attracts that exact audience? A variety of search engine is better than one tyrannical one.

It's like Google started the internet.
Most websites has no recognition without Google, no website is successful without Google's traffic.
I myself has tested this, I ranked my websites in both Google and Bing and at the end of the month I received like 28,400-28,900 traffic from Google searches and only 170-180 from Bing search.
You see the difference, why even bother any other SE?
