How many keywords should I target per page/post?

Hi there everyone,

I'm currently building somewhat of an authority site in a niche, and my plan is to write (or get someone else to) ~1000-2000 word articles on a single category describing different types of things, for example:
I have the category art from WWII (main keyword), then a 1000-2000 word article, talking about the different types of WWII (long tail keywords).
Say for the sake of convenience, there's 7 different types of art from WWII, that'd be about 7 keywords (+any extra even longer tailed keywords), would this work? Is there some kind of limit to the amount of keywords a single page should be targeting?

You generally want around 2-4% keyword density. It varies from person to person

As far as I'm concerned (and what I've read recently) keyword density doesn't really matter anymore. What matters is the quality of the article form the perspective of the reader. Most people nowadays claim that user experience is all that matters but of course mention those keywords a few times in the article and in the end if it the article is enjoyable and readable you did a good job.

From my personal experience, the amount of keyword does not matter (but you do not want to overdo it), what matters most is the quality of the article, I have managed to get clicks from organic search for articles that I have just written 1 or 2 days ago with good content on the article and 1-2 times mentioning the keyword in the article. Most of the time I make sure that my keyword is on my article title, my description and on the link, I tend to use the keyword, probably up to 4 times in an article.

i think it would be good if you focus on 1 main keyword per page/post and leave the rest to the long tail keywords that comes with the article , the better the article the more long tail keywords you'll get / rank for !!

I'm not talking about keyword density, just about the amount of keywords on 1 page.

With 1 keyword per page, I think you're talking about 1 main keyword?
Then along with that long tail keywords?

For example:
main keyword: colored widgets
long tail: red widgets, blue widgets, orange widgets, etc.

As far as I understand it, there's 1 main keyword, and as many long tail keywords as you can, while still having quality content, and people being able to read the article?
With 2000 word articles, having 1 main keyword, and then having 7 long tail keywords or so throughout would leave about 300 words per long tail keyword, which is plenty I'd say?

A safe suggestion is 2-3 kws per 400-500words. Title and H tags are needed.

Not sure what you mean here.

With the amount of keywords per page, I'm talking about how many different keywords, not the density of said keywords.

2-3 keywords per 400-500 words sounds reasonable to me, and thanks for the tip with titles and H tags.

Using 1-2% keywords for each post is the safe and it looks natural. Reduce the keyword density and increase the quantity of posts/day with the good quality. Though you are looking for two different KW do follow 1-2% of KW density per post. Hope you got my point.

So around 1 or 2 keyword is enough as far as your project is concern!

There is no standard answer to this.
I usually go for 1-4 keywords, depending on how related they are.
And btw, you got the longtail keyword idea wrong.
If your keyword is "colored widgets", the longtails could be "best colored widgets" "awesome colored widgets" etc.
"Red Widgets" is more a category

2 keywords is Good, but try to use synonyms of the exact keyword rather than using exact keyword, Remember that the synonym also works in G

I suggest you for unique and high quality article. For each page you can target 1-2 keywords. if you can provide high quality articles, keyword won't be a big fact.

What do you mean by this?? So, if the content is highly unique then no matter in KW limitations??? Nope!! KW limitation is must followed even the content is unique.

The keywords targeted per page should be used less in number in order to target them effectively. The best would be less than or equal to 3 keywords you can add for a single page of your website......

If the article it's writed in good quality (good semantic context). So don't insert a lot of keywords in one article but try to link all the contents in semantin manner (for example link other contents with good anchor with do follow).

keywords density does help you can target 2% or 3% more becomes excess... also besides KW the quality of the article matters a lot... a badly written article with how many ever KW will get a low rating
