Why Are My Articles Ranking?

I have a new website about 4 months old. I have 0 backlinks other than a Facebook page I created for the site. I have written 20 articles, and I have paid for 20 articles. So I have 40 articles total.

The articles that I paid for, I checked all of them for plagiarism, and all were 100% unique. I also checked the keyword density, and all were around 1% for the keyword. The articles are all about 500 words long.

The articles I wrote myself, I did not run them through any plagiarism software. The main reason I didn't run them through any software is because, I didn't reference any other articles when writing them. So I figured since I was writing them off the top of my head, they would have to at least be 80% unique. I did check my keyword density, but after I had already posted all my articles. The keyword density ranged from .80% to 3%. To be honest, I was being pretty lazy when I wrote the content.

I believe all of my keywords are considered easy competition. The part that I can't figure out is, why are all the articles I wrote ranking on the first and second page of Google, while the articles I paid for, some are ranking around 100-149, or not ranking at all? What am I not factoring in that could be making half my articles rank well, and half to fail? Density, and word count is all I can think of.

No, I hate writing. I spent about 15-20 minutes on each article, forcing myself to chug an Americano, just to help me complete the chore.

I only want to get some ideas as to what's causing the results, so that I may inform my writer.

I have Serpbook. Under the part that says BL, it's displaying "n/a." I do not know if that includes social share links.

Long shot thought: May be Google nowadays is looking at sentence-level and/or paragraph-level uniqueness, and the content writer has just used a few synonyms (at words level) in them (copied content) to make it plagiarism proof.

Do you know of any software that is capable of analyzing this for individuals? I would like to take a look at a few specific keywords of mine, one of them is showing position 3 on Serpbook. My Semrush account says the difficulty percentage for this keyword is 73.79. A free keyword density analyzer tool that I am using is showing 1.16% for the targeted keyword.

It has revealed 1 Facebook, and 2 Google+ for the keyword that I am ranking position 3.

I think it's pretty simple: you wrote a 100% unique article, the content writer rewrote another article making it less unique. So, Google is able to "see" the difference ....

I mean, if you can have an article rank that well, it must be a pretty good indicator that despite the fact that you spent little time writing the article you wrote something that was pretty useful. Did you use a long tail keyphrase?

It's probably because you wrote better content. Most writers produce low quality or spun articles, particularly writers that charge $5 or less for a 500-word article. Also, it could be that the articles you wrote focused on keywords whose levels of competition are lower than those the purchased articles focused on.

Interesting. I've never understood what Google meant by quality. How can a Google bot know what quality is other than spelling words, and plagiarism? Then again, maybe they can.

The keyword that is ranking the best is only 1 word, the longest keyword I have is about 3 words. My keyword research however, I spent a good amount of time doing.

So, pretty much what you are telling me, is that copyscape and other software used to check for plagiarism is never accurate.

You should be selling articles, even though you hate it. Find a better seller, google has better algorithms than copyscape.

My guess is... Your writer is using very high spinning machine like wordai to write. Or other spinners. I have had bad experience with three writers on bhw, their article never rank, it is spun, low quality.

This is a very common practice especially among freelance writers who will swap out words just to pass that plagiarism detector. Google always knows when this has been done. So most likely the original articles that you wrote are ranking better due to their pure originality.
