Hi all,

I made a change to my website, and moved a page to another URL (in the same domain), so I 301 the old URL to the new one, expecting that the link juice will pass...The site stop to rank for the main keyword...I manually edited backlinks to point to the new URL and now it is back.

I'm thinking that 301 don't pass link juice anymore...I have no more ways to try this theory, someone know something about this?

Thanks

If you did a 301 from old url to new url in same domain, why did you edit the backlinks?

Now that u edited links to point to new url, there will be no juice in old url, so that 301 doesnt have any link juice to pass.

301 will pass the link juice and rank just fine. I guess the problem with yours is Google didn't index the other page. Which type of redirect have you tried? Meta or .htaccess? Is the 301'd page has a different keyword than the main keyword?

how long did you wait and what exactly do you mean by out of SERP?

- did you mean a dance?
- or deindexed (seems highly unlikely)

if it was a dance then thats how the rankings change, they drop and appear back after some days (mostly with a better ranking)

i had this happen to me too. i 301'ed a page that was penalized, but google did not detect the 301 for some reason. i used a wp plugin to do the redirect. is that the issue?

This. You may have not waited enough.

Me too. I'm using a plugin. The new page were indexed. The old page were indexed. I waited 2 weeks but no longer back in Google results. Edited the backlinks and it bump up.

Maybe is the plugin? The way it do the 301?

I did this a few times, but the penalty also passed (after a few weeks/months)...

do a 301 redirect with htacess on 12 July, ranking is dropped in G but able to clinch back #01 spot on yahoo. (before 301, it was #01 in yahoo)
How long should i wait to conclude that the 301 didn't work for my site??

man, seems that you got algo penalty. kill that site and start (copy everything) on a new (aged) domain.

301s truly don't pass link juice anymore, I think.

I wasted money on expired domains twice this year with the hope that they would boost the rankings of my money sites after they are 301ed, but they didn't. The sites they were 301ed to didn't budge at all despite the fact that the 301s were already indexed (I know because the titles and snippets of the expired domains changed to that of the domains they were 301ed to).

I reckon Google neutralised the power of 301s to put an end to the 301 redirect blackhat technique. T'was great while it lasted.

recent i did 301 redirect to my old site to new site and my new site got rank faster within 3 days
you can say,,.. but now after month my site i dont know what happened it got back in ranking :( maybe due to old site spam work

The penalty from the old domain has transitioned to the new one.

I didn't read all the other responses here, but 301's are NOT immediate. It can take time, and there is a loss of link juice when it passes through the 301. Plenty of threads about this.

for me 301 worked in 3 days exactly.. it was new site running in wp.. Onpage was done perfect though.

II think when you edited the backlinks you wasted away the link juice, no linkjuice left to pass to the new domain

I redirected 4 domains in Godaddy control panel to my mainsite but after a month still no change in rankings. Am i doing something wrong?
