Goal: Create an Amazon affiliate site that generates a regular revenue of $25/day.
I was introduced to this forum and the IM world a few years ago. I quickly got sucked into the adsense mirco niche hype and really learned a lot in the process. Unfortunately I was desperate for income at the time, which lead to quick and dirty sites being thrown up as fast cheap as possible. I got around 8 small sites set up and very impatiently waited for results. I made some pocket change off of the shitty pages I had created and lost interest in a month or two.
I stumbled across the forum again about a week ago and got reading. Seems like quite a bit has changed! At this point in my life I have a lot more free capital and time to put into a project and have decided to re-enter the IM world with a new attitude. I've spent the past few days researching the different methods of monetizing traffic and a few threads about Amazon niche sites really caught my eye. In the interest of taking action and learning on the fly, I've decided to set up a new site which i'll be monetizing through the Amazon affiliate system.
My main focus is on creating a quality niche site that I would read myself if I were a potential buyer. I no longer have any interest in spamming the internet with spun articles and fake traffic just to try to make a few pennies. I spent most of the day yesterday researching a niche worth investing in, using trials of MNF and Long Tail Pro. I have chosen a low competition, lowish traffic niche as a "trial" to make sure I can rank it and get a feel for doing things the "right" way. My goal is to promote the site to the point of bringing in an average of $25/day. After I reach my goal, plan on expanding my portfolio with a larger, higher traffic site or a few of this size if it is successful.
Day 1 Accomplishments:
-Signed up for Amazon's affiliate program
-Registered new domain
-Set up webmaster tools and analytics
-Installed Wordpress and a great looking theme that I discovered on a similarly sized Amazon niche site (of a different non-competing niche).
-Purchased a premium plugin for product comparisons & grids
-Installed SEO plugins
-Wrote a 1,000 word main page article with a couple images and a nice product chart (to be expanded on later)
-Optimized the on-site SEO for the main page
-Ordered 2x500 word related articles
-Ordered 5x400 word product reviews
The other niche site that I referenced above managed to rank #1 for a keyword with a nearly identical number of searches in less than 2 months. Just a handful of seemingly garbage backlinks too. Total number and length of articles is very similar to what I have written and ordered in the details above. I am going to start here and see how the ranking advance over the next two weeks. I'll then start manually blog posting and researching some other white-ish hat backlinking methods.
Best case scenario, this turns out to be a winning formula for a keyword of this traffic and competition level and I can rinse and repeat . Worst case scenario, I've wasted about $100 on a solid learning experience and will re-load for another attempt. I will post here whenever I have noteworthy updates. If anyone has any advice for such a venture, I'm all ears! Thanks for following along!
